Defending Champions In Singles, Doubles Still Alive in NCHSAA 4-A Women’s Tennis
RALEIGH — A Panther Creek doubles team seeking its third consecutive state title steamrolled into the semifinals with a pair of wins in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 4-A women’s
Sammi Smith and Jordan Strickland did not drop a single game in their two straight-set victories and will play the Charlotte Myers Park team of Katie Soden and Gaby Soden in one Saturday morning semifinal. Sara Ackerson and Ana Horvat (Cary Green Hope) will take on Caroline Pope and Brooke Pritchard (East Chapel Hill) in the other doubles semi.
Defending singles champion Susanne Boyden of Wakefield had little trouble advancing in her draw, winning her matches 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-0. But she’ll face a tough opponent in the semifinals in Cary’s Supriya Narisetti, who did not lose a single game on Friday.
The winner of that match will face the survivor of the match between Lauren Gish of Lake Norman and Peyton Pesavento of Winston-Salem R.J. Reynolds for the singles championship.
Action starts at nine o’clock Saturday morning.
