GC Women’s Soccer Suffer 4-0 Setback to Maryville

GREENSBORO, NC – The Pride women’s soccer team (8-7-1, 6-4-1 USAS) fell to Maryville (11-6-1, 9-2-1 USAS) 4-0 on Sunday afternoon in USA South action.

Maryville got on the board 50 seconds into the game taking an early 1-0 lead. The Scots tacked on a second goal in the 20th minute when they capitalized on an own goal pushing the lead to 2-0. Samara Alba had a shot on frame in the 39th minute but it was saved and the game went into the break 2-0.

The Scots tacked on two additional goals in the second half in the 59th and 64th minute pushing their lead to 4-0. Lauren Greeson and Molly O’Keeffe both had a shot on goal but were saved and the Pride went on to fall 4-0.

Allison Gibson, Elizabeth Torres, Greeson, Alba, and O’Keeffe led the way with a shot. Greensboro held a 4-3 edge on corner kicks. Jessica Thatcher picked up the loss in goal despite making four saves.

Greensboro returns to action on Wednesday at home when they conclude their 2014 regular season. The Pride welcomes Mary Baldwin to Pride Field for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff.
