College Men’s Soccer Final – Roanoke 1, Guilford 0 (2 OT)

SALEM, Va – Christopher Fisher’s game-winning goal in double overtime earned host Roanoke College the victory over Guilford College, 1-0, in a tight Tuesday night Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest.

The first half featured extremely tight play with the Quakers holding the edge on shots for the period, 4-3. After a Lucas Prilliman shot, neither team recorded a shot in the final 22:31 minutes of the first half.

The second half remained tight with few offensive chances. After both sides traded a shot a piece early in the frame, both teams did not register a shot for the next 12:48. The Quakers and the Maroons stood even on shots, 7-7, after the 75th minute before Roanoke took the edge into overtime, 13-8, with six shots in the final 15 minutes of regulation.

The Maroons began the first overtime period with five shots in 1:01, two shots on goal stopped by Guilford’s Marko Mandalinic. Both teams remained scoreless after the first overtime frame with the Maroons taking the shot advantage for the period, 7-1. One minute after Mandalinic made his third save of overtime, Robby Lentine found Fisher for a goal on the right side 3:51 into the second overtime period to claim the victory.

Roanoke held the match’s shot advantage, 22-9, with 15 of the Maroons shots coming in the final 28:34 of the match. Roanoke also held the advantage on corner kicks, 9-2.

Mandalinic made eight total saves in net for the Quakers. Roanoke’s Cole Sinclair stopped five shots.
