GC Pride Volleyball Falls On Senior Night 3-1

GREENSBORO, NC — The Greensboro College Pride volleyball team played their final home game of the season on Wednesday night. The Pride welcomed USA South Conference foe Averett University to Mayo C. Harlow Memorial Court falling 3-1. Prior to the start of the match, Greensboro recognized seniors Dallas Hasty and Liz Widenhouse.

Greensboro College jumped out to an early 8-5 lead in the first set of play. However, the Cougars came back strong to take a 16-12 lead. After falling behind in the set, the Pride were able to rally back to tie the score at 18-18 but fell 25-20 giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead.

After dropping the first set to the Cougars, the Pride was able to jump out to a 10-4 lead following a five point run. Later in the set Averett tried to get back into the set but Greensboro was able to hold on for the 25-21 win to even the match at one set a piece.

With the match tied at one the Cougars were able to pull out in front 2-1 with a 25-23 set three victory.

Trailing 18-13 in the must win fourth set of play; the Pride was able to use a 5-0 run to pull within one point at 18-17. The Pride was able to keep the game close before falling 25-22 and the match 3-1.

With the loss, the Pride fall to 16-13 overall on the season and 8-9 in USA Athletic Conference play. The Pride volleyball team will return to the court for their final regular season matchups on Saturday afternoon at Meredith College. The Pride women will take on the Angels of Meredith at 10:00 AM before squaring off with Methodist at 2:00 PM.
