College Women’s Basketball News – Guilford Picked Fourth in ODAC Preseason Poll

SALEM, Va. – Guilford College’s women’s basketball team was picked fourth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Preseason Coaches’ Poll, announced Thursday’s at the league’s annual Media Day at the Salem Civic Center.

Lynchburg College is first in the rankings after collecting eight first-place votes and 117 points. Randolph-Macon College, which defeated Guilford in the 2014 ODAC Tournament final, was picked second with two top nods and 106 points. Eastern Mennonite University (101) is picked third, 11 points in front of Guilford and Virginia Wesleyan College. The Quakers and Marlins both received one first-place votes and 90 points.

Coach Stephanie Flamini enters her 12th Guilford season with two returning starters from last year’s club, which went 21-7 overall (12-4 ODAC) and reached the ODAC Tournament final for the third straight season. Gone are all-league performers Gabby Oglesby ’14 and Morgan King, along with starting guard Kayla Adams ‘14, but Brittany Drew and Jennette Taylor return for their senior seasons. Drew, a guard, is the team’s top returning scorer after compiling 8.9 points, 1.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game last season. Taylor contributed 4.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per outing. Guard Alex Payne and newcomer Kali Cuttaia, a transfer from the University of Charleston (WV), join Drew and Taylor as team captains in 2014-15.

The Quakers open the season Nov. 15-16 with the Guilford College Classic. Guilford hosts nationally ranked Christopher Newport University in Ragan-Brown Field House at 2:00 p.m. on the 15th and plays Meredith College the following day at 2:00 p.m.
