High School Football Saturday morning rewind:Names and numbers from Friday night’s games(Mack, Freeman, Gallaspy, others stand out)

*****I think we have numbers for you on all eight of the Guilford County teams that we had in the playoffs last night…One game to just throw in for you and it must have been a good one:Orange 21, Lee County 20…Burton Cates and Lee County went for two with just six seconds left in the contest and they came up empty.*****

NCHSAA FOOTBALL PLAYOFF BRACKETS

Jamiel Mack had another splendid night for the High Point Central Bison in their opening game of the playoffs which help lead to an HPC victory at Southeast Guilford…Four touchdown passes for Mack and another TD on a run and his team punched their ticket for another visit to Charlotte Catholic next Friday night…Charles Edmund was the beneficiary of two of those Mack TD passes, while Geoffrey Wall grabbed one and Shavon McCauley hauled in the other….Mack has become a proven leader and he has really stepped up over the past two seasons to excel at QB and he has been able to surpass large numbers that Drew Adams and Justin Johnson posted before him….Friday night Mack with 259 yards passing and 80 yards rushing, while Southeast Guilford got 219 rushing from Styles Jennings and 116 yards on the ground from Steven Baldwin…..

C.J. Freeman got his playoffs going in a good way with what seems to five TD’s for the Northern Guilford Nighthawks…..Very aggressive entry in Round One by C.J. and his ‘Hawk teammates, who will now hit the road and head to Wilson Fike for Round Two action….Was checking out Freeman’s numbers and found to go along with those 5 TD’s and over 300 yards rushing, C.J. also picked off three passes for Northern on defense…Looks like NG intercepted Northwood at least five times last night….

You can’t say enough about the workhorse from Southern Guilford, Reggie Gallaspy…Four touchdowns on 322 yards rushing and he pretty much just played in three quarters of the game on Friday night at C.K. Siler Stadium and that should take Reggie up to around 2,800 yards and 44 touchdowns on the season and that is a very solid season right there, but there is much more work to be done and he has help from the speedy Nigel Thomas, his QB Nathan Stoner, WR Ron Hunt, Amon Harris and many more SG Storm team members and it was good to Garrett Blackburn out there on defense taking it to C.B. Aycock on Friday…

Just scanning back over the names and numbers from Friday night’s games in real particular order we see Weston Haack(Northwest Guilford) got a key block of Providence punt and then he scored on a TD reception from Viking QB Josh Homol, but it was overall a tough evening for NWG in Round One of the playoffs, but you can’t leave out the strong effort by Haack who had missed so much action his first couple of years on the Varsity team and it is good to see him go out on the upswing..

The Page Pirates got a great effort from WR Diondre Overton had 8 receptions for 178 yards and Overton scored twice in the Pirates’ Round One loss at Ardrey Kell…Overton has become a top receiver and this kid should be able to write his own ticket in the future….

High Point Andrews fell to Monroe, but the Red Raiders closed out with 75 yards rushing and TD catch from Jahmad Cherry and 60 yards rushing from Travis Steele…High Point Andrews a very good rushing/running team this season, but Andrews did really miss QB Lamar Raynard from last year’s championship squad…

Nathan Lewis had a 94-yard touchdown run for Eastern Guilford in the Wildcats’ loss at Terry Sanford(Fayetteville) and the ‘Cats overall numbers on the night were not ones you want to write home about, with just two first downs in the first half….
