“Madhouse on McGee Street”/Hanes Gym expected to be Rockin’ tonight as Guilford College visits Greensboro College in men’s basketball

Tipoff set for 7pm tonight, with no women’s game prior to men’s contest, so ball in the air at 7pm inside the Hanes Gym/the “Madhouse on McGee Street” and the old gym was packed to the gills/rafters for a game with the Pride and the Quakers back in 2007….Greensboro enters at (1-0) and Guilford comes across town at (2-0) and this always seems to one of the hottest games in town, when these two get together in any sport or form of competition…

This is the sort of game former Greensboro College Hornet Dean Oldham lived for and Dean passed away last week…He was a member of the first men’s basketball team at Greensboro College back in the Fall of 1966….Say a word for Dean Oldham tonight and then get out and watch the game this man loved, Greensboro College, now the Pride, versus the Guilford College Quakers….

We have told you a little bit about the teams and about former player Dean Oldham and now a little bit about the gymnasium…..

Hanes Gym is Greensboro College’s home venue for basketball and volleyball. Located on the south side of campus, the 800-seat gymnasium is known for its old style charm and loud ambiance.

The arena has been home to the first GC athletics team–men’s basketball–since 1967. When filled to capacity (850), Hanes Gym is truly a special venue. In recent lore, the “Madhouse on McGee Street” was packed for a 2007 men’s basketball game vs. Guilford College.

Hanes Gym is located on the back side of Greensboro College and is easily accessible where McGee Street and Fulton Street meet. There is ample parking behind the gym.
