Elon Track and Field Begins 2014-15 Indoor Season on Saturday

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women’s track and field team opens its 2014-15 indoor season on Saturday, Nov. 22, at the JDL All-Comers meet in Winston-Salem, N.C. The meet will take place inside the JDL Fast Track facility.

The meet will be the lone event for the Phoenix during the 2014 fall semester and one of 10 meets on the indoor schedule for the maroon and gold including three more at the JDL Fast Track complex.

Mark Elliston enters his ninth season at the helm of the Phoenix track and field program. Elliston was promoted to Director of Track and Field and Cross Country in September and welcomes two new coaches on his staff. Nick Polk was named the Phoenix’s head cross country and assistant track and field coach in August while Shannon Popp was also added as an assistant coach. Polk will work with the distance harriers while Popp will be involved with the throwers.

Elon will look to build off an impressive 2013-14 indoor campaign while returning a majority of its all-conference performers from a year ago including sprinter/hurdler Sydney Griffin. The junior captured the Southern Conference 60-meter hurdles title last season and is one of four returning all-conference athletes returning for the Phoenix along with senior Tereza Novotna (one-mile) and juniors Jennifer Esposito (4×400-meter relay) and Jennifer Pash (4×400-meter relay).

The Phoenix’s next indoor meet comes after the turn of the calendar in Winston-Salem as the maroon and competes at the Wake Forest Invitational on Jan 10. For the remainder of the team’s indoor schedule, go to its schedule page at elonphoenix.com
