Dia’Vante Brown(Southern Guilford HS) and Liberty knock off previously unbeaten Coastal Carolina to send Flames to JMU for playoffs

Chima Uzowihe blocked a potential game-winning field goal as time expired, allowing Liberty to punch its ticket to the NCAA FCS Playoffs for the first time with a 15-14 victory over No. 2/1 Coastal Carolina, Saturday afternoon, at Brooks Stadium.

With the win, Liberty and Coastal Carolina share the Big South Conference title with identical 4-1 league victories. The Flames claim the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA FCS Playoffs by virtue of their upset victory today.

This win marks Liberty’s first-ever win over a No. 1-ranked team in athletics department history.

The Flames, who have now won seven Big South titles in program history, will be making their first-ever appearance in the NCAA FCS Playoffs.

On Sunday, the Liberty Flames learned they will face No. 15 James Madison in the first round of the NCAA FCS Playoffs in Harrisonburg, Va. Kickoff from Bridgeforth Stadium will be at 4 p.m. on Nov. 29.
