College Women’s Basketball Final – Guilford 77, Bridgewater 50

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kali Cuttaia (Eden, N.C./Morehead/Univ. of Charleston (W.Va.)) led all scorers with 21 points as Guilford College earned a Tuesday evening Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Bridgewater College, 77-50.

The Quakers shot 47.2 percent from the field to start the first half while Bridgewater shot 31.2 percent. Guilford extended their lead to double digits for the first time in the contest, 7:27 into the first half. The Quakers grew the lead to as a large as 16 points before Bridgewater went on a 5-0 run to close the half. Guilford grew the lead in the second half to as large 28 points en route to the victory.

Cuttaia added six rebounds and two blocks to her 22-point effort. Anais Weatherly (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) added her fourth double-double in five games with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Jennette Taylor added seven assists and four steals to complement a six-point evening.

Bridgewater’s Cassidy Burkholder led the Eagles with a double-double effort, 10 points and 11 rebounds while Jessi Strom added 11 points.

Guilford shot 50.7 percent for the game, including 54.8 percent for the second half while shooting 5-of-10 from beyond the arc in the contest. Bridgewater closed out the game shooting 21.2 percent in the second frame to finish the night shoot 262. percent.

Bridgewater out-rebounded the Quakers, 50-39, on the power of 20 offensive rebounds, creating 13 second-chance points. Guilford’s eight offensive rebounds produced 11 second-chance points. The Quakers dominated in offensively in the paint, outscoring Bridgewater, 44-18.

The Quakers (4-1, 1-0 ODAC) return after the Thanksgiving break next Tuesday, Dec. 2nd, traveling to Averett University for a 7 p.m. contest.
