SWANANNOAH, NC – The Greensboro College Pride men’s basketball team returned to the hardwood on Monday night against the Owls of Warren Wilson. Greensboro College defeated the Owls just eight days earlier but fell tonight by a 75-68 score

Greensboro College jumped out to any 20-5 lead with 11:30 to play in the first half following a 12-1 run. Devan Gregory got the run started for the Pride with a floating jumper in the lane to give Greensboro an 8-4 lead. As the run progressed, sophomore forward Edric Roberts completed an old-fashioned three point play, before capping off the run with his sixth point of the contest.

Once the Pride jumped out to a 20-5 lead, Warren Wilson College was able to come back to take the lead at 30-29 before heading into halftime with a 35-31 advantage.

In the second half of play, the Owls were able to pull out to a 12 point lead at 51-39 before the Pride was able to pull back within just six points at 51-45 with 9:40 left to play. However, Warren Wilson then used a 5-0 run to extend the lead to 14 at 59-45.

After Greensboro fell behind by the 14 point deficit, the Pride was able to mount a 13-3 run to pull back within seven points at 63-56. Roberts and Chris Corbin got the run going with back to back baskets before Brandon Pascucci drained two shots from long range to close out the run.

Over the remaining seven minutes of play, Greensboro College tried to fight back but fell by a score of 75-68.

“We battled for forty minutes tonight, but at the end Warren Wilson was able to make more plays,” Pride Head Men’s Basketball Coach Bryan Galuski said. “We have to be better on both sides of the ball and unfortunately we are forced to learn from our mistakes the hard way. We need to find a way to rebound quickly as we have two really tough games this weekend.”

Greensboro College shot 41 percent from the field in the game, while converting on 67 percent from the charity stripe.

Devan Gregory led the Pride with 19 points including 10 free throws, while his teammate Brandon Pascucci tallied 17. Parris Scales, Simeon Howard, and Hamilton Hawkins each recorded three rebounds on the night.

With the defeat, the Pride men fall to a 1-2 overall record in this young season. Greensboro College will be back in action this weekend at the Taylor Memorial Tournament hosted by North Carolina Wesleyan. The Pride will take on Wesley on Saturday afternoon at 5pm before squaring off with Maryland Bible College on Sunday at 1pm.
