High School Basketball Tonight for the Guilford County teams/area and a look back at Monday with Harry Giles/WES at the top of the leaderboard/scoreboard

See tonight’s full schedule down below, but first we have:

from Monday night:Wesleyan boys 73, Winston-Salem Prep 53…WES starting five with HGIII/Harry Giles with 18, Kwe Parker had 13, Jalen Johnson with 11, Brandon Childress 10 and Michael Buckland came on with 9…That is a very tough five, led by Giles and Parker right there…Also from Monday night:Bishop McGuninness 77, Oak Level 25…Spencer Wilson paved the way for Bishop with 17 and Will Webster pumped in 11 and Ryan Moon had 10…Westchester Country Day 71, Davidson Day 60 and for WCD you had Caymen Bennett with 17, Marshall Lang with 15, LJ McCoy 14 and David Ayodele with 14….

Greensboro Day School girls over Hickory Grove 47-29 with Tamera Thorpe hitting for 23 key points…Bishop girls worked by Davie County 68-41 with Tia Cappuccio at the 21-point mark…Tessa Johnson followed with 18 points, Danielle Nieters with 13 and Alex Putman had 12 points for the Villains…Wesleyan Christian Academy lost to Winston-Salem Prep in girls basketball 63-38….

For Tonight/Tuesday night:

Page at Eastern Guilford….Page boys up there with Cornelius Hough and Lake Norman as the topped ranked 4-A boys teams in the state….Girls at 6pm and boys at 7:30pm….Watch out for Quayson Williams for Eastern Guilford, he hit for 37 points his last time out and he led Eastern Guilford into Overtime against Page at Page last season, on this very night…..Page has a one-two punch with Diondre Overton and Jalen Seegars working right now that is as good as any other in the state, but they need Ty Graves and Xavier Hill-Mais to return to the floor to make this the top team in the state….Campbell Kargo is getting very close to returning for the Page girls and they should have Emily Casper back tonight as well…
Northern Guilford at Northwest Guilford….You can’t ask for a better game to out with heading into the Thanksgiving Holidays…Those former students from both schools will want to check in as they arrive on campus at NWG this evening and you can look for a very large and outgoing crowd to be in attendance in the Northwest Gym/Roger Nelson Gym on this night….The Northwest Guilford student-section has been #1 our area for several seasons with the SWG Cowboys also taking the title on occasion and Page having seen and experienced the glory and Eastern Guilford with the Wildcat Crazies have been on the list and others, still seeking them out….NWG, SWG, Page and EG have been there and the rest of you??? How ’bout that “Student Section”????? And meanwhile back at the ranch, and that is taking us back up Highway 68, but first remember that Northern has a very young, but talented girls team and the NWG girls??? Come out and see for yourself…You Neas, I mean need to take a look at this bunch and the Moore you watch the Lady Vikings, the more they will be Pointer/pointing you in the right direction….They can make the cuts to the basket, since they do have a team Barber and this group would just a soon crank up the Tucker, I mean truck as they would the bus….The NWG have a Jalen/Jaylen backcourt that is as quick as any in the county and I will need to see what that they have done with post since last year’s losses to graduation, but Kevin Henry in the backcourt gives you a huge lift too…And that was Gore and Spicer at guard for Northwest, for those of you keeping your book up to date…Games set for 6 and 7:30 and we will have to get a look at the NG boys to see what and who they have tonight…

We could really bring this early season into focus with a guard highlighted battle featuring Tyren Melton and Ty Graves from Page, maybe the two Ty vs. the J2 guards from NWG….Ty2 vs. J2 and that be one of your better guard wars in the county and maybe we will get to see some of this at the Haeco Tournament after Christmas…

Other meetings this evening as all of the players lay it all out just before they get to eat that BIG Thanksgiving meal on Thursday….
Southwest Guilford at Southeast Guilford… 6pm start and the girls game should be good, but the boys game could get out of hand and I was at this game in December of 2012 and saw Ben Ferguson from SWG get hot from that right corner in the new SEG gym on a Friday night and it was “Lights Out” when Ben lit up the rim and he in the process, burned down the nets…..Both Langleys, Kaymon Mitchell and much, much more from SWG….Lashonda Monk, from SWG could possibly be the top young lady on the court here tonight at SEG….
Dudley at Durham Hillside at 6 and 7:30pm…..Dudley boys should be at full strength tonight and hope we still see senior BJ Pittman at the point…Hooker and Seagraves and few more of those Panther men will be ready to run tonight in Durham and for the ladies, Abraham, Morris, Barghan, Harrisons and for the first time in a long time, no Rouse tonight….Gonna miss the Rouse kids and Kennedy Currie, they meant a lot to the Panthers over the years…
Ragsdale at Southern Guilford with action at 6pm…Two names at least for you from Ragsdale with T.J. Parker and Tevin Quick…These two are good for at least 15 points each and 8-9 rebounds each per game…Ragsdale for sure missing Daniel Kanakanui and James Stepp from last year, but with Quick and Parker, that gives you a good starting point….SG sort on an unknown commodity with first-year coach, Evan Fancourt….Girls, Coach Whitaker is always upbeat at SG and Ragsdale is never really down, they just have to get the pieces in the right places…
Grimsley at Mount Tabor with the 6 and 7:30 jumps on the slate…Bruce Davis is about the only name that I am familiar with at this stage of the game from Grimsley and he is a good one and we have not seen Mt. Tabor have many bad teams at all over the years, with Andy Muse on their bench as the Spartans coach….
Caldwell Academy at the Greensboro Day School at 5pm and with the girls, the Caldwell Academy Eagles may be ready to give the Lady Bengals a game by using Hannah Houser and Peyton Kadlecek to their full advantage and Tamera Thorpe can go any day of the week for GDS, she had 23 just last night….GDS ladies are (5-0) with load of names that we have not seen before…In the men’s game, GDS will have to combat the Brewer kid, but after that, Caldwell is not very deep at the key positions…Caldwell at (1-5) to start the season and Freddy Johnson going for win #903 tonight…
Asheboro at High Point Central with another 6 and 7:30 go set here and HP Central has the football boys back and they will have a talented team with those kids alone, because they can play on the right day and it is Tuesday….There does not seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel for the Bison girls….Kenny Carter checked out and when he turned out that light, it never came on again….

A few other solo games according to the News and Record ledger…..
High Point Christian Academy at the New Garden Friends School 7:30pm and in previous years, HPCA would have been a heavy favorite, but not tonight, this game could go either way and NGFS might be ready to “Catch a Cougar”….(Boys Only)
Winston-Salem Christian at Bishop McGuinness…7pm…You may see Spencer Wilson throwing balls off of the backboard so he teammates can slam them back down with authority in this one….When Spencer Wilson is on the floor, you are battling a guard that gives everything he has and you are also battling a higher power too…The kid has got the calling and he knows where his help and his power source originate from….
Glenn at WS Reagan…7:30 with the girls only in this one and it should be a good one…Glenn has started at (2-0)….Coach Melvin Heggie has his girls playing and thinking the right way…
Reidsville at Rockingham County with both boys and girls and the girls games in this matchup used to be even better than the boys….6pm beginning….HP Andrews knocked Reidsville girls out of the 2-A State Playoffs last season in a game many thought that the Reidsville Rams might win and Coach Wall has put a wall up around Rockingham County girls basketball and he says his are the best and says come beat the best if you can and some have taken that dare and been fortunate enough to come away with victories….Boys game might be one to look at in more detail at its conclusion and in other words, we don’t know too much about these two going in, but we may know more later than we do now, coming out…..

Talk about a brief look at tonight’s games…If you have a local business you need to be sponsoring some of these Tuesday and Friday previews, because these will get read a lot today, I can guarantee that…..

  1. BJ Pittman is no longer at Dudley and Ty Gravesis in the paper today transferring to Monteverde Academy in Florida! Can you say wow!!! Smith has to be the favorite in the Metro 4A this year! Page losing Eaves and Graves really hurt and Hill-Maize being ineligible for the first semester. Seagars and Overton has a lot of work to do. Wish my Whirles the best of luck this year!!!

  2. Reidsville at Rockingham is girls games only, JV girls first with Varsity to follow.

No Boys game because Rams still in playoffs

  3. The girls game with the ROCK and Reidsville ought to be worth the price of admission…Always good battles…

Ty Graves gone to Florida and this is getting crazy with kids moving out and moving on and they are telling BJ Pittman is gone from Dudley too…

Ty Graves, I saw him playing ball all the way back at Mendenhall when he had a broken arm for a while and he was still playing some and using his opposite hand…

He and Anthony Eaves were some kind of good when they used to be together in that backcourt for Page…

  4. Yes, the girls game between the ROCK and Reidsville will be especially since one of Reidsville’s best from last season is now at the ROCK. Goin to be a good one

  5. The ROCK Lady Cougars will be a team to watch out for this season. The are deep and strong. Several AAU players on the team and two freshmen you need to see. They have a lot of potential!

  6. JJ Watson is at Diamond Ranch High School in California. Very big loss for Smith. Smith still has a very good team.

  7. I agree with what you say about JJ….That kid could play…When you have the ability to get people/defenders up on your back with your dribble pattern and draw those crazy fouls and then to ice the games like he did at the Metro 4-A Semifinal at the foul line last year….His ability to get to the line late was uncanny, so going 8-9 late in many of those games….

Ty Graves was smooth, just real smooth and he a very good shot release……

  8. Andy Durham, Please check your facts, because Bruce Davis is not on Grimsley basketball ball team. They have a talented junior Michael Featherston, a talented sophomore Aaron Wiggins and top senior John Puryear. They beat Mt.Tabor 56-70. Thank you! Whirlies Nation!

  9. Thanks then and this is news to me…He sure did a very good job on that JV team last year and we were expecting to see him on Varsity and for him to be a leader…

    Learn something new every day….

    Good info….
