25-Year Tradition ends on a wet note:Annual Turkey Bowl a “rain out” on this Thanksgiving Thursday

I saw that sign at the Detroit Lions-Chicago Bears game today and it said, “Detriot Lions Football a 75-Year Thanksgiving Day Tradition”….

Well we had our local Turkey Bowl going for 25 years and today our Annual Event came to an end, due to rain and wet field conditions…

At around 10am this Thanksgiving Morning we had steady rain, dark skies and wet grounds and the field was deemed unplayable, so the Annual Turkey Bowl turned out to be a wash…

Maybe next time and the crazy thing is that by 11:15 the rain had stopped and the sun was coming out, but by that time, the players had become the non-stayers and who could blame them, for most of them they had turned in football tickets for meal tickets and it was just about time to eat….

Detriot did beat Chicago and later on Philadelphia roughed up Dallas…In that Bears-Lions game you had two former ACC football minds going at it with Jim Caldwell/Lions(Wake Forest head coach) and Marc Trestman/Bears(N.C. State assistant coach)…Jim Caldwell a former Demon Deacon and Trestman a former Wolfpacker….

On Trestman at N.C. State from Wikipedia:
In 2005, Trestman returned to college football coaching as the North Carolina State Wolfpack offensive coordinator, guiding the Wolfpack to a win in the Meineke Car Care Bowl. However, at the end of the 2006 season, he, along with the entire coaching staff, was fired….

Jim Caldwell at Wake Forest from Wikipedia:
Caldwell was named head coach at Wake Forest University in 1993. He was the first African-American head football coach in the Atlantic Coast Conference/(ACC).

In eight years, Caldwell had a record of 26–63. He installed a powerful passing attack that set numerous school records, many of which have since been broken under his successor, Jim Grobe. However, his teams rarely ran well; in one year the Demon Deacons’ leading rusher only notched 300 yards for the entire season. He only had one winning season, in 1999, when the Deacons won the Aloha Bowl.
