NCCSIA Announces 2014 North Carolina College Division All-State Men’s Soccer Teams

The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) announced its selections for the 2014 College Division All-State Men’s Soccer Teams on Monday. Twenty-two players representing nine different North Carolina Colleges and Universities were selected to the first and second teams.

Wingate University and Lees-McRae College lead the way with three selections each on the first team, while Pfeiffer University logged two selections and Greensboro College, Chowan University and Barton College had one player grace the first team.

Greensboro College’s Logan Rohde is the 2013 All-State goalkeeper after recording a 12-7-0 record between the posts. The junior was also named this season to the All-USA South second team after appearing in 19 games and assisting the team in setting a program record for most shutouts in a single season. The Cary native found himself in the school’s record books for goalkeeper shutouts (8) while picking up 57 saves, and finishing the campaign with a 0.98 goals against average.

Defender Alex Nelson from Wingate was named to the first team after assisting the Bulldogs in clinching the South Atlantic Conference Regular Season title and reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Newcastle, England native played in 20 games with 19 starts this season and garnered a spot on the All-SAC first-team. He anchored a defense that allowed just 0.97 goals per game to rank second in the league. Nelson concluded his season with one goal and a spot on the Daktronics All-Region first team.

Victor Tozelli is the second defender from Wingate among the All-State. The Sao Paulo, Brazil native earned a spot on the Daktronics All-Region team and All-SAC team for the third-consecutive year, while also playing a key role in the stingy Wingate defense. The senior started in 18 games and registered three goals, including a score in the SAC Championship match.

Lees-McRae’s Marvyn Rieger grabbed the final spot on the first team as a defender after concluding the season with two goals for four points. The sophomore and now two-time Conference Carolina All-Conference helped lead a Bobcats defense that finished the season with nine shutouts.

Terell Williamson makes his debut on the All-State team as a midfielder for Chowan after leading all players in NCAA Division II with 24 goals on the season. The Alexandria, Virginia native concluded the season with 53 points which included five assists. The freshman tallied five hat tricks and had a trio of multi-goal games including a win over Ohio Valley that produced eight points for Williamson with three goals and two assists.

Midfielder Erik Pajunk of Barton was named to the first team for the third year following a season where he was named to the Daktronics All-Region first team and an All-Conference Carolinas first-team honoree for the second-consecutive year. This season, the Rio de Janerio, Brazil native led the Bulldogs to their first-ever NCAA Tournament berth. The three-time NSCAA All-Southeast Region selection started in 20 games, and registered nine goals and seven assist to claim 25 points.

Pfeiffer’s Martim Galvao was a 2014 All-Conference Carolinas first-team honoree after his performance this season with a career-high eight goals and 10 assists for 26 points. The Lisbon Portugal native concluded his debut season second in the league in assists and fifth in points and on the Daktronics All-Region first team.

James Smith of Lees-McRae is the final midfielder selection for 2014. Smith earned not only All-Conference Carolinas for the second time, but Daktronics All-Region laurels as well after registering nine goals and eight assists for 26 points.

Nathan Regis of Pfeiffer adds to his collection of laurels that includes being named to the Daktronics All-Region first-team and first-team All-Conference Carolinas for the second-consecutive year. The Arima, Trinidad and Tobago native was second in school history with 19 goals, 10 assists and 48 points this season. He started in all 23 games and led the conference in goals, assists and points. He lead the Falcons to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance after becoming Conference Carolinas Tournament Champions.

Lees-McRae’s James Galvani clinched the final spot for the Bobcats on the All-State first team. The High Wycombe, England native finished the season with a team-best 28 points on 13 goals and two assists. The four-time All-Conference Carolinas player and Daktronics All-Region honoree was second in the league in points and goals.

Charlie Machell is the fourth member of the first team from Wingate. The SAC Player of the Year led the league in goals, with 12, and points, with 28, while clinching All-SAC and Daktronics All-Region laurels. Machell led the 16th-ranked Bulldogs to a regular season SAC title and the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The NCCSIA All-State second team is comprised of Lees-McRae’s Nicholas Stover, and Maurice Kleinert, Pfeiffer’s Jamie Siaj and Roberto Soares, Greensboro’s Drew Clukey, Guilford’s Colin Dillon, Barton’s Dante De Luca, Chowan’s Christian Funes, Wingate’s Shaun Gadsby, Mars Hill’s Alex Mullen and UNC Pembroke’s Sam Miles.

Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by the NCCSIA members.

Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.

NCCSSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball.
