The Northern Guilford Nighthawks were winners in Raleigh in 2010, they won it all in Chapel Hill in 2011 and they brought the title home from Wake Forest back in 2012…

Now the Nighthawks are re-starting the cycle with a return trip to Raleigh in 2014….

The Nighthawks are now (19-0) under Coach Johnny Roscoe in the playoffs going back to that 2010 season and they will try and reach that crowning moment again next Saturday, when they take on the Weddington Warriors, out of Matthews, as the two titans get together on the N.C. State Wolfpack field, at Carter-Finley Stadium…

A look at Weddington in 2014, with the Warriors coming off of a 24-21 victory over Cuthbertson on Friday night and that allowed the Warriors(14-1), to avenge their only previous loss from this season…

3-AA Championship Game

The Northern Guilford Nighthawks had worked through a lot of issues to get where they need to be and on Friday night, they had trouble knocking at their doorstep early, when NG QB Cam Harris started having stomach problems after taking a hard hit and he needed time…Got it all worked out and came back out and had a very solid game for Northern…

C.J. Freeman took a shot on play where he was carrying out a fake and there’s was no faking his approach as he was leaving the game in the second half, he was under much duress….Freeman was suffering from concussion complications and his availability for next week’s game is still in doubt, but the Nighthawks feel certain that their running leader will be ready to roll in Raleigh….

The catch of the game might have been the play where Tre Marsh went and was able to haul in a pass from ‘Hawk quarterback Cam Harris and Marsh had to take the ball away from Chapel Hill defensive back Conner Korfas and that was no easy task, but the 6’4/195 pound Marsh came out the winner on that key play and this one became a verbal instant replay between two of the game officials and they had to reach a conclusion it it took them a minute or two….Was it the white jersey or the purple jersey? Purple Power wins out and Marsh was a true winner on this night with QB sacks on defense and a TD catch on offense…

Northern(14-1) had kids stepping up and standing out all over the place with Marsh, Harris, Freeman, Mook Reynolds, Nick Fryer, Dwaine Norcott, Daniel Kelly, Tucker Hord, Jeremiah McCoy, Duncan Taylordean and many more making the most of this magic moment on Friday night at Johnny Roscoe Stadium, as the Nighthawks took down the Tigers…

The Nighthawks had loads of sacks and picks coming into this game and they came up with more sacks to add to their totals and they were able to pick off Chapel Hill QB Conner Stough to the tune of four interceptions on the evening….Max Maynard, Daniel Kelly, Tucker Hord and Cam Harris made out like bandits when they stole Stough’s airspace, by not allowing him to go long and complete the vertical passes, when this game was on the line…

The line may have been the difference on both sides of the ball for Northern….Nice running lanes were opened up for C.J. Freeman to fly through and when Freeman went out and Nick Fryer took over as the featured back, Fryer, a much different runner than Freeman, Fryer made his own holes with a Don Nottingham-type effort, which means Fryer made his own holes and if they were there, it didn’t matter to Fryer, he just ran over and through people and made the clock run with the score already in tact….Don Nottingham, a former Baltimore Colt bowling ball of a runner and may have later seen time with the Miami Dolphins, Coach Don Shula loved the guy and the Nighthawk fans are loving their team and their chances to bring the BIG trophy back to Spencer-Dixon Road one week from tonight….

That will do it for us today and now all that is left for the 2014 season is to see if Northern can make it four State Titles in the past five years….And that is a Rewind that they would like to bring around……

On Matthews Weddington from Jay Edwards at the Charlotte Observer:

WAXHAW Six games ago, Grayson Willingham wasn’t even the starting quarterback for Weddington.

But when it mattered most with a berth in the 3AA state championship at stake, Willingham made the biggest play of the game, scoring the game-winning touchdown on a 10-yard run with just 24.4 seconds left to give Weddington a 24-21 win over rival Cuthbertson.

Willingham’s run capped a 12-play, 69-yard drive that took 3:38 and gave the Warriors the game-clinching points.

Weddington (14-1), No. 6 in the Charlotte Observer Sweet 16 Poll, now hopes to make it a magical run when they take on Northern Guilford in the 3AA state championship game Saturday night (Dec. 13) at 8:05 p.m. at N.C. State’s Carter-Finley Stadium.

While Willingham (12-for-21, 163 yards and two touchdown passes) led the offense in the air, Warriors’ senior Mitchel Carson was big on the ground, rushing for 102 yards on 18 carries.

Meanwhile, Weddington senior Zach Goins was also huge in the passing game with catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns.

You’re forgetting about Dudley. Page in 2012 was the best team IMO in the past couple of years

The Dudley team that won the state championship beating Kannapolis was the best team along with Page in 2012. None of the NG teams compare with those two teams.
