The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) announced its selections for the 2014 University Division All-State Volleyball Teams on Monday. Fourteen players representing six different North Carolina Universities were selected to the first and second teams.
Big South Conference member High Point University led the way with five selections with the Sun Belt’s Appalachian State University following closely behind with four.
Emily Corrigan of Appalachian State was the leading vote-getter among outside hitters. Corrigan finished second in the Sun Belt with an average of 4.39 kills per set to earn Sun Belt First Team All-Conference honors. UNC Wilmington’s Morgan Kline was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association Third Team with an average of 3.05 kills per set this season.
Meredith Peacock of UNC Wilmington and Appalachian State’s Lauren Gray garnered first-team middle blocker honors. Peacock was a first-team All-CAA selection, averaging 2.00 kills and 1.53 blocks per set this season while attacking at a .288 clip. Gray earned Sun Belt Second Team All-Conference recognition this season, averaging 2.93 kills and 0.74 blocks per set this season while posting a .315 hitting percentage.
High Point University’s Kristin Heldt garnered first-team honors at right side, recording 3.31 kills and 2.53 digs per set while attacking at a .253 clip this season to earn a spot on the All-Big South First Team.
Appalachian State’s Paige Brown dished out 11.73 assists per set this season to earn All-State First Team honors in addition to being named the Sun Belt Setter of the Year. Gardner-Webb University’s Anna Pashkova was named to the All-State First Team at the Libero position after averaging just under five digs per set this season.
The NCCSIA All-State Second Team is comprised of Charlotte’s Irem Asci, Gardner-Webb’s Tyler Cockrell, Appalachian State’s Jess Keller and High Point’s Haley Barnes, Camryn Freiberg, Gabi Mirand and Wavie Chin.
Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by the NCCSIA members.
Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.
NCCSSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball.
