The Cowboys of Southwest Guilford hit the road to face off against their city rivals Raiders of Andrews. The Cowboys came into tonight looking to stay perfect on the year while the Red Raiders were still looking for their first win on the season. The Cowboys last lost to the Red Raiders in December of 2009, and since have won the last 9 in this city rivalry. The Cowboys were looking to keep the streak alive, while the Raiders were desperately trying to turn the tables.

Following a Red Raider layup, the Cowboys quickly put 10 straight on the board to seize control of the game. The Raiders chipped away, but the visiting Cowboys held a steady margin, and the opening frame closed at 24-15.

The second quarter was mor back and forth from as the the Southwest lead hovered around double digits, eventually settling on 43-32 headed into the break after a basket at the buzzer for the Raiders.

The second half opened the same as the first with the Cowboys going on a quick spurt, but nevertheless the Raiders kept scratching away and refused to lay down. A 6-0 run to end the frame put the tally at 61-47.

The final quarter had the Raiders continue on their run getting the deficit to 61-52 at the 7:15 mark. The Cowboys responded well and slammed the door shut on any Andrews’ attempt at a fight. The final tally was 85-65 in favor of the Cowboys who move to 5-0 on the young season.

The Raiders were led by Tyliek Brister with 20 points. The Cowboys were led by Orlando Smith with 22, 6 Rebs, 3 Stls, and Kam Langley’s near triple double with 17, 9 Asts, 9 Rebs, 3 Stls. The Cowboys had 5 players reach double figures in a good road win. No rest for the weary as the Cowboys host the Pirates of Page High School tomorrow night.
