HPU’s Geisler, Lomas Earn Preseason All-America Men’s Lacrosse Honors

HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point University men’s lacrosse’s redshirt-senior goalie Austin Geisler and junior attacker Dan Lomas were named to Inside Lacrosse’s All-American honorable mention list.

Geisler and Lomas are the first Panthers to be named to a preseason All-America list in the program’s history.

“Austin and Dan are very deserving of this honor,” head coach Jon Torpey said of the distinction his two veteran players received. “It’s a testament to these guys’ hard work. We’ve seen them get better every day and we feel that is going to continue as the season progresses.”

Geisler, the 2014 Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Year, returns to anchor the Panthers’ defense. He finished last season second in the NCAA in saves per game (13.79) and fifth in save percentage (.596) en route to being named A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week six times.

“Austin’s saving ability, clearing ability and ability to run our defense are as strong as any goalie I’ve had associated with my program,” Torpey said of the Virginia native’s talent in goal.

Lomas, the A-Sun’s Offensive Player of the Year, led the league with 42 goals and finished 13th in the nation with 2.80 goals per game. He scored at least one point in the team’s final 23 games and also tallied 33 ground balls during the year.

“Dan’s ability to finish inside and quick dodge on the perimeter makes him one of the better attackers in the country,” Torpey commented on Lomas’ contributions to the team’s offense.

HPU will play its first exhibition at home against Mount Olive on Jan. 11 at 11 a.m. The team’s first regular season game takes place on Feb. 1 when the Panthers host Delaware at noon.
