Elon Men¹s Golf Adds Three for 2015-16

ELON, N.C. – Second-year Elon men’s golf coach Don Hill has announced that three players will join the Phoenix program for the 2015-16 school year. Joining the program will be Philip Loeb (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Connections Academy), Niall McMullen (Lochgelly Fife, Scotland/Lochgelly High School) and Steven Segrist (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg High School).

Said Hill, “I’m thrilled to announce the signing of Philip Loeb, Niall McMullen and Steven Segrist. As the Elon Phoenix golf program evolves and grows, great players need to be surrounded by other great players. Philip, Niall and Steven all have the tools to be very successful at the Division I level. Not only are these young men talented, but they possess high character and a willingness to achieve in the classroom. I expect all three to make an instant impact at Elon.”

As a freshman at Hilton Head Preparatory Academy, Loeb helped his squad to a state title while earning all-state accolades. Loeb earned a top-10 finish in the 2013 Jones Cup. While participating in a junior tour, Loeb competed in six events from October 2013 thru March 2014 and placed in the top five in five events. His highest showing was a second-place finish. Loeb was the 2013 Florida Junior Match Play runner-up.

Philip is the son of former Brown University sprinter David and Katharine Loeb.

McMullen played for David Patrick’s Lundin Golf Club and is a member of the Scotland Boys Squad. In March, McMullen captured the Scottish Junior Champion of Champions title. He helped his program claim victories in the Faldo Series as well as the Fife Boys County Stroke Play event. The squad won county titles in both 2013 and 2014.

Niall is the son of Peter and Pauline McMullen.

Segrist, who placed third at the 2014 Junior PGA Championship Qualifier, claimed the Maryland state title and District V crown as a junior. That same year, he earned Howard County Player of the Year accolades. A team captain and team MVP, Segrist claimed the county championship. Segrist was the District V runner-up in 2012 and earned first-team all-county distinction in 2011-12. His performance has helped Chris Beil’s program to a 2012 county title and a third-place state finish that same season.

Steven is the son of Scott and Sandy Segrist.
