GC Pride Men’s Basketball Tripped Up By Bridgewater 74-63

BRIDGEWATER, VA – The Greensboro College Pride men’s basketball team opened play at the 2014 Bridgewater Classic against the host Eagles of Bridgewater College. Simeon Howard poured in a team high 23 points but it was not enough as the Pride fell by a 74-63 score.

In the opening frame of play, Bridgewater and the Pride combined for four ties before the Eagles were able to gain a 32-27 edge advantage heading into the break.

Coming out of the intermission period Greensboro College was able to gain a 40-37 edge following a 13-5 run over the first five minutes of the second half. Edric Roberts got the run started for the Pride with his second basket of the day before Howard scored eight straight points to cap the run off giving Greensboro the lead.

Once the Pride was able to take the lead, they extended their lead to a game high eight points at 50-42 following a pair of free throws by Will Griffin. However, Bridgewater proved to be too much down the streatch out with the 74-63 victory.

“Today was an extremely disappointing loss for us,” Pride Head Men’s Basketball Coach Bryan Galuski said. “We did not come out and play a full forty minutes today. We have to find a way to rebound tomorrow in our game against Eastern Mennonite.”

Devan Gregory chipped in eight points to go along with Howard’s 23 while Brandon Pascucci added seven points in the contest. Edric Roberts tallied six rebounds in seventeen minutes of play to lead Greensboro. Simeon Howard and David Leaman also added five boards a piece.

With the loss, Greensboro College falls to 3-4 overall while the Eagles improve their record to 4-2 on the season. The Pride men will return to the hardwood tomorrow afternoon for their final game of the classic as they take on the Royals Eastern Mennonite. The game is set to get underway at 2:00 PM
