  1. John Puryear did not have 23 points at halftime. I don’t know where you got your info but that is not true. I do know there were college reps from UNC, Davidson CC, and Christopher Newport Univ there at the game.

  2. You may be right, it may have been 16 or 18 points at the half…Lots of sheets of paper and talking to coaches during the game…I still remember when I made that 23 point margin break in the points, but thanks for the word…You would not believe how many names and numbers we keeping up with in a lot of different directions, but it is for real, that is for sure…

  3. Andy, I’m gonna give you a throwback but Puryear and his smooth game and shooting stroke remind me of a former whirlie, Carter Gourley who played on those great grimsley teams with Darren Corbett. Ever hear if he played anywhere after high school? I think Puryear will make a fine player somewhere when he is done at Grimsley

  4. Good call on Carter Gourley and John Puryear…When their shots are on they are ON…You can almost watch them at the arm/elbow release and it is like a fulcrum/hinge system at work…

Like you say, very smooth shooters and it is not like the NBA Three-Point Shootout release, it is steady and like you said, smooth…The PJ Hairston release was more like rapid fire, sort of like the NBA Three-Point Shootout release…Bang, bang, bang…

Sometimes catch and shoot, other times catch get the feet completely set/square and then shoot…

Elbow-Arm release is still fun to watch and makes you wonder if Puryear and Gourley had their spots on the Grimsley floor where they feel like their shots had the best chance to fall…

I remember some of PJ shots at Dudley and it seems like he was better on the left side that he was on the right side of the floor…Some players left-side, right-side it doesn’t matter, but for some they do have their spots and preferences….

Thought I saw the Gourleys at the Grimsley game a while back, good supporters of the Whirlie program….

Always fun to watch a shooter hit that groove….
