Elon’s Diehl Named to NSCAA Scholar All-South Men’s Soccer Region Teams

ELON, N.C. – Junior Nathan Diehl of the Elon University men’s soccer team was selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) University Division Scholar All-South Region Team as announced by the association on Wednesday, Dec. 17.

This is the first Scholar All-Region award for the Birmingham, Ala., native after helping the Phoenix backline lead the Colonial Athletic Association in shutouts during the 2014 season. Diehl started all 19 matches this season for the maroon and gold, playing mostly at right back, and aided the defensive unit to nine shutouts. Elon also led the CAA in fewest goals allowed (17) and goals against average (0.85).

Diehl also contributed on the offensive end with four total points with a goal and tied the team-lead in assists with two.

To be eligible for nomination, the student-athletes had to be juniors or seniors in academic standing and hold a 3.30 grade point average or better on a four-point scale.

This is the latest post-season academic accolade for the men’s soccer program. The team was recognized as one of the top academic teams in the nation by earning its eighth straight NSCAA Team Academic Award earlier this year.
