Hot Shooting Leads GC Pride MBB Over Lake Forest 83-66

GREENSBORO, NC – Following a nine day holiday break, the Greensboro College Pride men’s basketball team (6-4) returned to the court to take on the Foresters of Lake Forest College (3-6). The Pride came out slow in the contest, but was able to steam their way to an 83-66 victory.

The Pride fell behind early by a 9-5 mark but they were able to respond back with a 14-3 run over the next four minutes of play taking a 19-12 lead. Devan Gregory got the Pride to within one point at 9-8 following a shot from long range before Simeon Howard connected once again from the behind the arch to cap of the run.

Once Greensboro College jumped out to the seven point lead, Lake Forest would tie the game with 1:00 to play in the half but Greensboro was able to close out the half on a 5-0 run taking a 42-37 lead into the break.

Coming out of the halftime break, the Pride men continued to connect from long range. In the opening ten minutes of the second half, Greensboro College connected on four attempts from long range to extend their lead to 65-53.

As the game started to wind down, the Pride man was able to extend their advantage to as many as 19 before holding on for the 83-66 victory.

“I felt we beat a very good team today,” Pride Head Coach Bryan Galuski said. “I was really impressed with our guys played team basketball. We did an excellent job in the second half with our defensive adjustments that aided us in the win.”

Greensboro College had five different players tally double digits in the contest. Simeon Howard recorded a game high 21 points while Raheem Martin, Devan Gregory, and Will Griffin added twelve points apiece. Freshman Joseph Gatling also contributed 11 points.

Raheem Martin led the way for Greensboro College on the glass with seven rebounds. Scales and Gregory also recorded three rebounds apiece while Will Griffin and Gatling hauled in two.

Greensboro College recorded as season high 55 percent (31-56) shooting mark from the field to go along with a blistering 54 percent (13-24) clip from long range.

The Greensboro College men will once again return to Mayo C. Harlow Memorial Court on Tuesday night. The Pride will welcome the Stars of Dominican at 7:30 PM.
