In the 3A/4A Championship game of the Sheetz Holiday Classic, it was the Patriots of Southern Alamance versus the hosting Cowboys of Southwest Guilford. The Patriots are in the title game thanks to a triple overtime victory over North Davidson on Friday night, and the Cowboys cruised in their victory over Western Guilford.

The Cowboys came into tonight’s battle playing for a third straight Sheetz Holiday Classic title. The game tipped off and the action began right away with the teams trading baskets all the way until A 5 point spurt by the Cowboys gave them a 10-7 lead, a lead they never relinquished. The opening frame closed at 18-14.

The second quarter had the Cowboys’ lead reach double figures and stay there until the half time break at 40-27. The second half was when the Cowboys put their foot on the gas on both sides of the ball as they forced several turnovers and played solid team defense, forcing contested shots and held the Patriots to only 4 points in the quarter as the 3rd frame ended at 54-31.

The final frame opened with a Cowboy blitz as the lead quickly surpassed the 30 point threshold and remained there as the teams’ bench’s battled out the remaining several minutes.
