GC Pride MBB Pull Away For 77-61 Victory Over Dominican (Ill.)

GREENSBORO, NC – Sophomore guard Devan Gregory led the Greensboro College men’s basketball team to a 77-61 victory over the visiting Stars of Dominican University (1-11) on Tuesday night. The Pride men (7-4) scorched the net for the second game in a row posting a 55 percent (31-56) shooting mark while converting eleven of their eighteen chances from the charity stripe.

After going into the break only up by a five point margin, the Pride was able to pull away in the second half to preserve their fourth straight victory.

With the Pride leading 40-35 to start the second half of play, Greensboro College was able to open the second half of play on an 8-2 run extending their lead out to nine at 48-37. Devan Gregory got the opening run started with a layup in the paint before Simeon Howard capped it off with an easy bucket of his own followed by a pair of charity shots.

With 3:52 to play in the game, the Pride took their largest lead of the game at 75-51 following a 13-0 run. The run for Greensboro College was sparked by stellar defensive play and hot shooting. During the run, Will Griffin recorded each of his three steals in the contest while Gregory and Raheem Martin recorded the thirteen points combined.

As time expired in the game, the Pride got a free throw by Javen Garrison to cap of the scoring helping preserve the 77-61 victory.

“We found a way to win tonight despite not playing our best basketball,” Pride Head Coach Bryan Galuski said following the game. “As the game went on our effort picked up. We have got to find a way as a team to be more consistent as the season goes on into conference play.”

Simeon Howard and Joseph Gatling also recorded double digit points in the win. Howard finished the game with thirteen points on 7-13 shooting while Gatling recorded eleven points on a near perfect 5-6 shooting.

Greensboro College was outrebounded in the game 35-25 but was able to force the Stars into 20 turnovers while only committing ten of their own. Devan Gregory hauled in a team high five rebounds while Parris Scales, Raheem Martin, Simeon Howard, and Joseph Gatling recorded at least two each.

Anoribe Nwannewuie led the way for Dominican with thirteen points to go along with a team high six boards.

The Pride will take their four game streak on the road this weekend as they open USA South Athletic Conference play. Greensboro College will take on the Hawks of Huntingdon College at 3:00 PM (2:00 PM EST) on Saturday afternoon before squaring off with the Panthers of LaGrange on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
