Game Report: Southwest Guilford vs Eastern Guilford Boys Basketball

The Cowboys of Southwest Guilford hit the road tonight to square off against the Wildcats of Eastern Guilford. In last year’s matchup the Cowboys overpowered the Wildcats at the Ranch in an easy home victory. But this is a new year and a new team. Who would come out victorious.

The game opened up with the teams trading baskets for the entire opening frame, ending at 17-16 in favor of the Wildcats.

The second-quarter had Eastern Guilford start to build a lead us to seven midway through the quarter. But the Cowboys responded and cut the lead back down to two but then the Wildcats went on another run ending to have up 40 to 31.

The third-quarter mirrored the second quarter with eastern pulling ahead and the Cowboys fighting back this time the quarter ended in favor of the Wildcats 60 to 56.

The final quarter was full of action as the Cowboys scored 4 straight points in the first 30 seconds to tie the game at 60. From their teams traded baskets and the lead with The cowboys are taking their first lead of the game since the first quarter at 73-72 at the 2:22 mark. The teams traded baskets ultimately with Southwest taking is 76 to 75 lead with 23 seconds remaining. Southwest forced a bad shot but got called for over the back which sense they wildcat to the free-throw line and me both free throws to reclaim the lead 77-76. Southwest came down called a timeout. Southwest Randy said but fumbled the ball quickly reclaim possession and called it another time out with 5.7 seconds remaining. The inbounds play was ran in the cowboy player drove to the basket and was unable to finish through tough contact. The Wildcats held on to win 77-76.

The Wildcats were led by Quayson Williams with 27. Southwest was led by Kam Langley with 21, 5 Rebs, 3 Asts, and Orlando Smith with 14, 3 Rebs, Ben Ferguson with 13, 3 Rebs, 2 Stls, Kaymon Mitchell with 12, 6 Rebs.
