  1. Good job northwest guilford boys and girls. They have quite the program. They are also winning with what they got. Nobody has transferred into there. All homegrown from northwest middle and Kernodle.

  2. I guess that is a shot at GDS? Seeing how they are a private school and have no district not really sure how that is a fair statement. I think NW has a great team and they are having a great year. No need to taint your comment by trying to diminish someone else and their program. GDS will have plenty of opportunities to lose in the next few weeks. You can go on your feeding frenzy then if they can’t win in their league. Private schools can’t operate without students. So are you saying we shouldn’t have any private schools? Is that the answer? Just pull for your team and don’t say anything else if you don’t have anything positive to say.

  3. Appy I dont think the post was slamming GDS but you also cant believe its a level playing field. I think private schools are great but they should only play other private schools. They should not be in the Little 4 and they should not be allowed to compete in the football playoffs. GDS is a well coached and talented team that has played twice as many games as it opponents and isnt restricted by the state on practice times and eligibility. I personally enjoyed watching them play but to say they belong in a tournament with 7 public schools is avoiding the big pink elephant trampling through the Special Events Center.

  4. The parents are the only ones who care about this level playing field nonsense. As a competitor, you want to play the best. If they have reclassified players and they are a year older, who cares? You can take this argument even farther, Northwest should never play a 3A school since they are a 4A school. They have an unfair advantage because they have more kids in their school. Just let the kids play the game and have fun.

  5. I agree with Tom regarding playing the best. I’m happy that NW had an opportunity to play GDS in the Haeco. It’s one game, didn’t impact NW’s post-season goals, and was a great opportunity for the NW kids to see how they stack up against a high level private. No negatives, from my perspective.

  6. I would agree with Tom. I think it is something the kids from the better public school teams want. It is an opportunity to prove they are as good or better than the private school getting all the accolades. Always fun when you get to play a higher ranked or nationally ranked team. I know the GDS people felt that way last year when they had a chance to play Montverde. They get kids from all over the country. Tom has valid point that competitors want to know how they stack up.

@level field GDS does have rules as far as practice goes. They have mandatory times where they can’t do anything. Rules are not much different than public school rules as far as practice goes. They can start the Monday before Nov 1st instead of Nov. 1st. I think they can start practice in May when all regular season games are completed in the spring sports. It may be the playoffs. Not sure about that one. But I can assure you they do not practice year round. Their kids may work out year round but they can’t have year round practices. I see their biggest advantage is not having to wait for football to end to get their entire team. I do think that is a huge advantage.

  7. Glancing over the records of this poll: but when was the last time a Guilford County public won a state title in basketball???

  8. Yes on the Grimsley question with Coach Gunn, she is still the head coach of the Grimsley Whirlie girls and I saw her son Adam at the Eastern Guilford-Southwest Guilford games last night….

  9. I am going to start me a private school with nothing but 20 plus agers with skills and just let them play the high-schoolers around here. Heck its only a game and lets just let the kids have fun! YIPPPEEEEEEE!

  10. It wasn’t a shot at GDS. It was support for the school and the players on the team. They are a young great team full of hardworking players. They only have one senior starter and 1 senior 6th man so they should be a force for years to come. Don’t think everything is a shot against GDS appy and always be in a defensive stance. Maybe if you didn’t have a guilty conscious, you wouldn’t assume a general statement about northwest program being built by great middle school/high school coaching is a shot against a private school. Sounds like a guilty conscious to me 😉

  11. Speaking of a level playing field; does anybody know the CORRECT age of Agba from GDS??

    Thanks – Happy New Year
