GC Pride Men Fall In Conference Opener To Huntingdon 83-78

HUNTINGDON, Ala. – The Greensboro College Pride men’s basketball team saw their four game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon. The Pride men traveled to Huntingdon College to take on the Hawks of Huntingdon College in their USA South Athletic Conference opener and could not rebound from their mistakes falling by a 83-78.

Greensboro College was able rally from a eleven point margin to go into the halftime break down only three at 39-36 following a Devan Gregory three pointer just before the horn.

Coming out of the intermission period, the Hawks were able to add on to their lead. Seven minutes into the new period, Greensboro faced their largest deficit of the game at 55-42.

Once the Pride fell behind by the 13 point margin, they came storming back with a 23-10 run over the game’s next five minutes tying the game at 65-65. During the streak Will Griffin, Parris Scales, and Devan Gregory accounted for 19 of the points.

After Greensboro tied the game up, Huntingdon then pulled back infront by as many as eight points but Joseph Gatling gave Greensboro a chance to tie the game following a big three point shot making the score 81-78.

Following the big three point basket Greensboro College would have a chance to tie the game, but Devan Gregory had his shot rim out keeping the margin at three. After the miss Huntingdon was able put the game out of reach with a pair of free throws holding on for the 83-78 win.

“I didn’t feel we were mature enough to win our first conference game on the road,” Pride Head Coach Bryan Galuski said following the game. “I give a lot of credit to Huntingdon as they were able to make the plays when we weren’t. We have to rebound quickly as we travel to take on a very talented LaGrange team where we have to play a full game and not just in five minute spurts.”

Devan Gregory led the Pride with 19 points while Joseph Gatling and Will Griffin chipped in 14 points each. Parris Scales (11) and Simeon Howard (10) also recorded double digits. Raheem Martin led Greensboro in the rebounding category with eight.

The Pride men (7-5, 0-1 USAS) will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they take on the Panthers of LaGrange College in another USA South showdown. The game is set to get underway at 1:00 PM.
