High School Basketball Tonight for 1/6/15 with Dudley at Smith and many more on tap

Games tonight with most set to tip off with the girls at 6 and then the boys come out at around 7:30pm, but the Mid-State 3-A is going with JV Boys at 5pm, then Varsity girls at 6:30 and the boys at 8pm….

Big game tonight with the Dudley Panthers(5-5) at the Smith Golden Eagles(7-7) for the boys and the girls will be ready to go at 6 and then the Metro 4-A Boys showdown will roll at 7:30…Dudley with Aaron Simpson, Tristan Scurlock, Myles White, Kendric Lowe, Desmond Sturdivant and others leading the way, while Dudley has been counting heavily on Hendon Hooker and Brion Seagraves…Have seen Smith and the Eagles can run, but have not seen Dudley this year/season….In the girls game I will just be honest and place a strong favorites role on the side of Dudley…Essence Abraham will lead the way and with Kiarra Harrison, Morris and more, it will hard for Smith to overcome Dudley, but we will be there to see it all happen…

One of the best Dudley-Smith boy’s games that I will never forget, came back in 1995 or 1996, when Dudley came to Smith on Tuesday night and the place was so packed you could not get a mouse on Weight-Watchers into that building….Smith had the Junior “Human Eraser” Marvin Webster Jr. and Dudley had a bus load of talent with Vincent Whitt, Brendan Haywood, Braxton Williams and current Smith coach Derrick Partee….I was so hot in that building, I thought I might die right there and it did not matters that I had a terrible case of the flu and was sweating like a stuffed pig or a like a race horse on Derby Day….Man it was hot and it was rough, but the game was outstanding and with all of the TV, newspaper and radio people on hand, I think Dudley made the move and pulled it out in the end….Largest crowd in a high school gym that I can remember seeing in Greensboro and the anticipation of that game was “off the charts”…

I did may radio sports talk show from 6-7pm and got to the game in time for the 7:30 start…I still remember interviewing Bill Hass of the News and Record at halftime and thinking, I may sweat off a 100 pounds in here, in this gym tonight and when you went outside, it was so cold, you knew with the sweat and cold and when they would meet, you would be under the weather/sick for at least a month…Was still sick when the Super Bowl hit that year, but we sure had the chance to see a whale of a game, when Dudley met Smith on that Tuesday night at Ben L. Smith High School…Never saw another one at Smith, or with Dudley vs. Smith, quite like that Tuesday night….Must have something like Dudley 70, Smith 65 at the end…Get out there this evening and create some memories of your own….

Also tonight/this evening and we will be a bit more brief on these games, we have:
Northwest Guilford at Lexington 6pm…NWG boys at (11-1) and the girls at (12-0)…Lexington boys(9-2) and the girls are (3-5)
Eastern Guilford at Western Alamance 6:30pm girls and boys at 8…EG boys at (10-2) and EG girls at (8-4)…WA boys(4-4)/Girls(0-7)
Page at Southeast Guilford 6pm…Page boys at (6-5) and girls at (5-7), with the SEG girls at (9-3)…
Grimsley at Southern Alamance 6pm….Grimsley boys at (7-4) and they will receive a stiff challenge from the SA boys…Girls game should be a toss-up…
That takes care of all of our city schools and we can go home now, but wait a dog-gone minute, we some good county games tonight too…
Northeast Guilford at Northern Guilford 6pm unless they are sticking to that Mid-State 3-A mandate and I would like to know if it is 6:30 or 6 for the girls here with NG at (10-3) and NEG girls coming on with Dinah Neal and Michelle Jeffries and NEG boys are having down year and good night for NG boys to get up/get down….
Ledford at Southern Guilford at 6 and the SG Storm girls have worked their way up to (6-6) at the mid-way point of the season and good to be half-and-half at the halfway point….New coach Evan Fancourt still trying to find the right connections for the Storm boys….
Asheboro at Western Guilford 6pm…Tough loss on the road last night for the WG Hornets and did not see DeShaun Taylor in the boxscore and they need him to get past these conference games….
*****Don’t see Southwest Guilford, Ragsdale, High Point Central or High Point Andrews on the list for tonight and we will expect to see them back in action on Wednesday and we know that SWG is at Page tomorrow…Was school in session yesterday, or was that a Teacher’s WorkDay?

More action this evening with lots of different variations of games with some boys and some girls and some boys only/girls only…
Greenfield at Wesleyan(Boys Only) 6pm and I think that first WES-GDS boys game comes up on January 20, which would be two weeks from today…
Davidson Day at High Point Christian Academy…Girls at 5:30 and boys at 7pm…HPCA boys at (11-7)…..Is the coach of the HPCA girls team, Sam Beasley, is he the same Sam Beasley that attended Southeast Guilford High School back in the day???
Wesleyan at Bishop McGuinness(Girls Only) 6:30
Sheets Memorial at Vandalia Christian(Boys Only) 7:30
New Garden Friends School at Crossroads Charter(Boys Only) 7pm
Uhwarrie Charter at Bishop McGuinness(Boys Only) 8pm
American Hebrew Academy at Burlington Christian 6pm
The Burlington School at Westchester Country Day 6pm…Met the Burlington School coach the other night and I do believe that they have only lost one game this season…
McMichael at Burlington Williams 6pm
Rockingham County at Eastern Alamance 6pm
Caldwell Academy at Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill TBA on the time and Caldwell at (3-13) on the season….

*****That is all we have for right now and feel free to add in your part/parts….*****

  1. They never show up on the master lists that we use and the same thing happens with Caldwell Academy…

    Time to visit MaxPreps…

  2. The Metro conference should be pretty interesting this year. Dudley and Smith. Always hype surrounding this matchup. Grimsley may sneak up on people and Page will come on strong. I like Eastern Guilford’s chances in their conference as long as Quayson Williams is on the floor. I am sitting tight until what may be the best matchup of the year takes place. Southwest against Northwest. Should be fast paced and fun to watch. The word around High Point is Desaun Taylor is at HP Christian. Don’t know how true this is, but he is needed for Western. Northeast is not what they used to be but I believe Coach Hunter and crew will have them going for conference. Great time of year. Conference time

  3. 95-96 yrs ,the smith eagles never lost to dudley at home.In 95 clavon Ingram had game winning tap in, 96 Jamal Burney went off that game je had 30 on senior night

  4. Is the coach of the HPCA girls team, Sam Beasley, is he the same Sam Beasley that attended Southeast Guilford High School back in the day??? And he used to coach at Monroe Parkwood, I believe….

Smith either went to the 4-A Boys final or was close to it back in ’95 with Marvin Webster there and I’m not totally sure who won that game that night back in say ’96 at Smith, but I do know for sure that Dudley won the 4-A Title with Whitt, Haywood, Williams, Partee and others on the Dean E. Smith Center court and the Panthers had to go to OT, but they defeated Richmond County and the RC Raiders top player was I will say, Johnathan Neeley…..

Lots of memories of those Dudley-Smith games and I can tell you one for sure, Clavon Ingram was a force and he was tough to handle around the middle of the lane and near that basket….

We got HPCA and Caldwell posted and The Burlington School only has one loss(13-1) and their coach is Ron Johnson…..

  5. The Metro race is going to be tighter than you think, sleep on the Patriots and watch what happens.

  6. Smith did win that game at their place in 1996 but Dudley brought home the 4A title. Public hs ball around here just ain’t like it used to be…..
