Mike Boykin with 13 points…Alonzo Tyson with 8 points…Deshawn Leftwich with 5 points…Cameron Campbell with 5 points…Joey Baker with 3 points…Nykwaun Lucas with 2 points….

The “Dunker of the Day” was Dennis Smith Jr. from Trinity Christian, there were three-point shots raining down from all over UNCG’s Fleming Gymnasium….I’ve got 8 made three’s coming from High Point Christian, the Dudley Panthers have become a three-point shooting team with 9 made three’s from the Dudley Panthers today….Tyren Melton can shoot the long-range three for Page and you better be ready to put up the three-point shot because no matter what shot you take/attempt it is going to be contested….The defense is coming after your shot and they are going to try and block your shot 75% of the time…Now every shot you take is up for rejection…(Even the corner three’s.)

Several college scouts, or coaches if you will, that were that were there today at UNCG, were asking about Jalen Seegars from Page and I had to tell them he might be the most complete player on the court from our area right now and that is in regards to the public school players….Seegars does a little bit of everything within his game…

There were some scouts there from Clemson and I think they were representing the football team and they really like Diondre Overton from Page….He is flying high on the Clemson Tigers’ football radar and he just got an offer from West Virginia for football last week….Overton is going to have to improve his free throw shooting if he hopes to fully help/assist his Page Pirates’ basketball team this season….He missed about 6-7 free throws before hitting his first this afternoon….Overton has game and he along with Seegars had a couple of nice dunks on the day, but still nobody in the building threw the ball down with the force that Dennis Smith Jr. exerted…..Smith and his old teammate Kwe’Shaun Parker must have been a hand-full when working together last season for Trinity Christian….

The Page Pirates are still getting used to working with Xavier Hill-Mais since he re-joined the team at the end of the first semester…Page still needs to find more ways to incorporate him into the offense and I’m sure that they are working on that every day in practice…Got to get and keep the big man involved and they will…

Dudley does not have the power game that they used to have and the Panthers really have become an outside shooting team…They can nail the three’s and you have to think that has the Page Pirates attention as the prepare to face the Panthers on Friday night at the Mac Morris Gym…

High Point Christian is another one of those teams that were talking about earlier that really likes to pop that three-ball….The Cougars are becoming more and more of transition team that likes to kick it back out, or hit the corners for three-point attempts and you don’t see them looking to dominate inside like they did at one time when the big men such as Michael Obacha were around….The Cougars do have a junior, Amidou Bamba that is starting to turn some heads and he might be the one that really gets that interior game going again in High Point…

Dudley is not nearly as tall or as long as they used to be with now their tallest man the point guard Hendon Hooker at 6’5 and have a couple of 6’4 guys in Dematus Gilmore and Shyiem Cooper, but Dudley has taken their game outside more and now the it is the “Perimeter Panthers”, instead of the ‘Panthers in the Paint”…..

There you go with a pretty wrap-up of today’s game at UNCG and if you won’t to add in more, it is your turn…..Again, Dennis Smith Jr. was your “Dunker of the Day”, while Robertson and Bogan from HPCA and Hopkins from Dudley, would get “Trey of the Day” and you just might have to give Seegars from Page, the “Play of the Day”, because that kid was all over the place making plays today…..Seegars with those 23 points, that is a pretty good day’s work too….

  • Andy Durham said,

I am always looking for comparisons and maybe, just maybe Diondre Overton has hit a similar stride and maybe he will take a similar path as that of Haywood Jeffires…

Jeffires played both football and basketball at Page HS and he was very good at both and I do believe he was a member of State Championship teams in both sports, football and basketball….

Jeffires went on to play wide receiver at N.C. State and then made a very good living in the NFL with the Houston Oilers…

Maybe Overton goes that route and we will have to wait and see, but it is fun to speculate and Overton is a fun kid to watch and follow in his games on the court and on the field…
