Graham Sporting Goods High School Basketball Tonight with GDS at WES and VCS at Alamance Christian among the KEY contests

*****Got any picks on Greensboro Day at Wesleyan Christian Academy??? I would take WES by 5-7 points, if I was laying a line of some sorts going into this game….Got any takers? Or do you see an upset brewing, with GDS quietly going into this contest and WES living with all of the hype that can surround your program when you have star power like Harry Giles III, Kwe Parker and Brandon Childress….Probably some interesting opinions on how this one might turn out….*****

GDS at WES and VCS at Alamance Christian….There are other games tonight, but those two are the big ones and the Greensboro Day School(24-0) at the Wesleyan(23-3) game appears to be the biggest, but let’s not lose faith/count on what Vandalia Christian(15-2) at Alamance Christian(17-2) means to those programs in 2014/2015….

A note on tonight’s game from Vandalia camp:
The Vandalia Christian School Vikings (15-2; 6-0) take on the Alamance Christian Warriors (17-2; 7-0) this Tuesday in a game that has a postseason feel. Alamance Christian, led by 500 wins coach Jerry Bailey, enters Tuesday’s game on a 15 game winning streak and an undefeated conference record. The Vandalia Vikings enter Tuesday’s game on a 11 game winning streak, and also an undefeated conference record. This game doesn’t make or break each team’s seasons, with each team poised to make a deep run into the NCCSA AA State Tournament next month. The game is at Alamance Christian School TONIGHT at 7:00 p.m.
*****Have coached with and against Jerry Bailey over the years and he and I went through many a basketball war, back in the day….Should be a top-notch battle, with both teams at the top of their game….*****

Also on tap/tip for tonight:
Carolina Friends at Caldwell Academy (girls 5:30/boys 7pm)
Glenn at Northwest Guilford 6pm….Both Viking teams are at the top of the Piedmont Triad 4-A Conference and the girls game may be more of a test than the boys game will be, but Coach Reavis must face his old boys team, the Glenn Bobcats, again….
North Forsyth at Southern Guilford 6pm…Some are saying William Whitaker for Women’s Coach of the Year in this conference….Storm women at (8-7) and doing quite well in the conference…
Northern Guilford at Western Alamance 6pm…Should be no problem in either game for the Nighthawks….
Western Guilford at Central Davidson 6pm…Hornets are still hoping to get it all turned around, but it is going to take a while…
Bishop McGuinness at WS Atkins 6:30pm..Got to find out if the Bishop boys are still minus Spencer Wilson and if so, this could change how they finish conference-wise down the stretch run…
New Garden Friends School at Elite Prep Academy 7pm(Boys Only)…Kanayo Obi-Rapu Jr. was in the area last night with Longwood at High Point U and you know the Bears wish they could have Obi back for just one night. It would make for an Elite Experience….
Morehead at Rockingham County 6pm…The ROCK girls are still rolling and the Morehead boys lost their coach last week due to health issues and I wish Jason Tuggle, the Panthers’ AD would take over and see what he could do with the Morehead men….
The Burlington School at American Hebrew Academy 5pm….The Burlington School men are one of the top private school teams in the state of North Carolina….
Burlington Christian School at Westchester Country Day 6pm….John Primm, the former AD at Northeast Guilford, is the AD at BCS and I have no problem showing support for Coach Primm, he did things right at NEG for over 30 years….

There you have it and does anyone have more, and this might seem a bit like juvenile-type writing, but we are trying to reach the kids, as well as the parents and coaches….

  1. I am a GDS fan but think it will be tough for them to win at Wesleyan. Wesleyan gets up big and GDS fights back. Can’t overcome the early deficit and loses by 5.

  2. Based on what I saw in the Oak Hill vs WES game, WES does not have a bench and they are extremely dependent on Harry, Brandon and Qwe to make it happen. If either of those guys don’t have a great game, then WES can be beat. If Harry gets into foul trouble, then this team is done. I don’t think WES does well against the type of defense that GDS plays because they only have 1-2 guards with good handles so they must get the ball into the paint or they will have problems. I think this will be a 4 pt game on either side. I actually believe GDS has a greater chance of winning by 10 pts than WES. We know the GDS/Freddy system will show up and work as planned but I am not sure WES can continue to do what they want to do on the floor against the high level defense that GDS will bring.

  3. I think comparing this game to the Oak Hill game is a really bad comparison. Oak Hill had lots of size and length that GDS simply does not. They also have 8 players going to power 6 conference schools, and all seniors. Let’s also not forget that for both teams, that was their 3rd game in as many days, so I would expect the shorter bench, and younger team to be sluggish. So let’s avoid that comparison because it’s not a good one. That being said, GDS plays great team defense but Wesleyan hasn’t lost a home game in 3 years and I don’t expect that to change tonight.

  4. Wesleyan does not have too many horses. They have 3 horses, 3 mules and some donkeys. If any of those horses head to the glue factory (aka bench), then Wesleyan is done. Theo and the kid that went to College of Charleston were difference makers for this team in ways that they really have not replaced. The point guard spots is about the same but I don’t see that other play maker at this point. I think too many people are counting GDS out and that would be a huge mistake.
