There were some really good games in Alamance County Tuesday night.
It’s always good games when Vandalia Christian takes a short trip to Burlington to play long-time rival Alamance Christian. The varsity boys game highlighted the evening though.
This game was important for both teams. VCS and ACS were undefeated in conference coming into tonight’s game. This is the only matchup in the regular season between the two talented squads.
Both teams shouldn’t have a problem making it to the postseason. This game had huge postseason implications. It would pretty much lock up the 1 and 2 seeds from their side going into the state tournament.
VCS started the game out on fire. You could tell they came ready to play.
Coach Ryan Nelson fired them up before the game and they were playing brilliant basketball. It was the best basketball that I have seen them play as a team so far this season.
ACS played their own game as well. Coach Jerry Bailey got his players to never give up and continue to chip away at the VCS lead. ACS went on a 17-5 run going into the halftime. They went into halftime only down three points. This was huge, because VCS played excellent and only had a three point lead going into the break.
ACS came out of halftime playing the same way that they did on their run in the second quarter. VCS battled back on a couple of runs of their own, but ACS took the lead for good in the third quarter. The fourth quarter was all ACS as well. VCS tried their hardest to get back into the game. At the end of the game, it looked as if the starters for VCS were completely worn out. They had given everything that they had, but it was not enough to beat a talented ACS team.
ACS took the win at home over a highly talented VCS team.
