GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s Brittany Drew (Greensboro, N.C./Page) and Lauren Ramsey (Lexington, N.C./North Davidson) each amassed career-high point totals in the Quakers’ Wednesday Night Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Emory & Henry College, 73-63.
Guilford (9-7, 3-4 ODAC) held an advantage for the first ten minutes of the contest, with their largest lead peaking at six points. Emory & Henry (8-8, 3-4 ODAC) cut the deficit to two at the 9:42 mark of the first period before the Quakers amassed an eight point lead three times in a 1:47 stretch late in the period. Guilford used a 13-2 run early in the second half to widen the margin to 15 with 13:03 left in the game. Guilford hit their largest lead (18 points) with 8:45 left and the Wasps would cut the deficit no closer than eight the rest of the contest.
Drew amassed her career-high 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-5 shooting from three-point range. The senior also pulled down seven rebounds and dished out three assists. Ramsey’s career-high 15 points came on 4-of-10 shooting and 7-of-9 shooting from the foul line, adding seven rebounds to complement her evening. Jennette Taylor notched her first double-double of the season, totaling 13 points and 10 rebounds on 6-of-10 shooting. Anais Weatherly (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) added seven points, nine rebounds, and nine assists.
Megan Jacoby lead all Wasp scorers with 15 points, while Karina Farr came off the bench to score 14 points to represent Emory & Henry’s two double-figure scorers.
The Quakers shot 42.9 percent for the contest, including 7-of-10 from three-point range and 50 percent from the field in the second half. The Wasps shot 36.4 percent from the field, including 44.1 percent second-half shooting.
Guilford out-rebounded Emory & Henry, 48-33. The Wasps held the advantage offensively in the paint, out-scoring the Quakers, 32-18. Both teams controlled turnover numbers in the second half, with Guilford totaling 21 turnovers for the contest compared to Emory & Henry’s 17 after the Quakers held the advantage, 14-10, after the first half.
The Quakers return to the court Saturday, traveling to Lynchburg College for a 2 p.m. ODAC contest.
