Elon Track and Field Heads to Blacksburg for Hokie Invite

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women’s track and field team travels to the state of Virginia the second time in as many weeks to compete at the Hokie Invite at Virginia Tech beginning on Friday, Jan. 23. The two-day meet concludes on Saturday, Jan. 24, inside the Rector Fieldhouse.

Last Time Out
Elon competed at the Liberty Open last weekend, Jan. 16-17, where it had a few athletes capture event titles and as well as some standout performances. Sophomore Bre’anna Warren won the shot put title after throwing a personal-best toss 44’ 4.25” (13.52m) in the event. The throw is now the second-best on the program’s all-time performance list and also earned her a spot at the Eastern College Athletics Conference (ECAC) indoor championships.

Freshman Emily Dixon won the pentathlon after scoring 3,435 points in the multi-events. Dixon’s performance is now second best in school history after the Bath, United Kingdom, native won the pentathlon 60-meter hurdles, high jump and shot put events.

Junior Jennifer Esposito was the other Elon athlete to capture an event crown with her first-place standing in the 400-meters. Esposito finished the race with a time of 57.91. A couple of athletes had runner-finishes last weekend with senior Haley Laird in the high jump with a cleared attempt of 5’ 5” (1.65m) and Dixon in the regular 60-meter hurdles with her time of 9.00.

Elon returns to the JDL Track Complex in Winston-Salem, N.C., next weekend to compete at the Hilton Garden Invitational on Jan. 30-31.
