GREENSBORO, NC – Greensboro College Pride Head Women’s Basketball Coach Randy Tuggle picked up his 100th career win on Saturday afternoon. The Pride welcomed USA South Athletic Conference foe Methodist University into town, and came away with a 64-46 win to secure the milestone.

The Pride women raced out to an early 11-2 lead just three minutes into the game aided by a opening 7-0 run. The Pride women got their first three points of the game from Vontreece Hayes as she hit three of four shots from the charity stripe before Joslyn Spires capped out the run with two straight baskets.

After jumping out the early nine point lead, the Greensboro women kept the foot on the gas to go into the break up by eleven at 35-24.

For the first eight minutes of the second period, the Pride lead hovered around the ten point mark before Greensboro took their largest lead of the game at 55-38. With the score 46-36, the Pride women used a 9-2 run to obtain the seventeen point margin. Syerra Troutman sparked the run with an old fashion three point play before it was capped off by Shanita Hampton.

Over the course of the final four minutes of play, the Pride coasted away from the Monarchs to come away with the 64-46 victory.

Joslyn Spires and Shanita Hampton each recorded thirteen points the game, but it was Tiffani Stephens who led the way for the Greensboro with fourteen points on six of eight shooting.

For the second game in a row, the Pride was able to do what they have been known for all season and that is clean up the glass. Greensboro College held a massive 68-34 advantage on the boards in the game as both Stevens and Azha McNeil pulled down at least ten apiece.

“We played very well as a team tonight,” Pride Head Coach Randy Tuggle said. “We were able to push the tempo throughout the entire game and we were able to come away with the win.”

When asked about his 100th win, Tuggle had this to say. “I am very fortunate that Greensboro College has allowed me to do something that I love to do and it is an honor to be a part of such a great place. This win is not all about me, but about the kids that have played for me along with my coaching staff especially Jennifer (King) who has been with me from the start.”

With the win, the Pride women move to 10-3 overall on the season while going to 5-2 in USA South Athletic Conference play. The Pride women will return to the court on Wednesday night when they travel up Highway 29 to take on the Cougars of Averett University. The game is set to get underway at 7:00 PM.
