Paris Kea(Page HS) hits some key free throws to help Vanderbilt beat Alabama on Sunday, plus other women/girls on the move

Vanderbilt freshman Paris Kea(Page High School) hit two free throws with 10 seconds left to give the Vanderbilt Commodores (12-8, 3-4) a thee-point lead, and Alabama (12-10, 1-6) missed a potential tying 3-pointer at the buzzer.

The Commodores came up with a series of huge plays in the final eight minutes and defeated Alabama, 55-52, to gain their first SEC road win of the season…

A few more to follow on the colleges coming up, on a tight schedule and will add what we can, but this is very BIG today for Paris Kea and the Commodores….Kea for the day on Sunday had 11 points, 4 assists and she went 5-6 at the free throw line in 32 minutes played….

from what I have seen this season, the four future players to watch in Guilford County from the freshman class are all tall and they include Elissa Cunane(6’3), from Northern Guilford, Bria Gibbs, from Northwest Guilford, Rebecca Little from Grimsley and the Harris kid(Jasmine at 6’2), from Eastern Guilford…You may want to move Mahlon Brady at GDS and the Heard sisters at Page into the mix, if you really want to mix it up, but that is just what I have been seeing and saying…

More on the college front with Elon’s Sam Coffer(Northern Guilford) 12 points and 7 rebounds in a loss to UNCW on Saturday…Sam’s teammate, Shay Burnett(Southern Alamance) had 7 points and 3 rebounds for Elon…

In a game featuring two kids from the Triad/Greensboro Area, Stony Brook topped Binghamton 67-54 and Miranda Jenkins(Eastern Guilford) had 4 points and 4 rebounds for Stony Brook, while Imani Watkins(High Point Andrews HS), had 11 points and 6 rebounds for the Binghamton Bearcats in a losing cause….

*****RICHMOND, Va. – The Colonial Athletic Association announced today, Jan. 26, that Elon women’s basketball’s Shay Burnett has been named the Rookie of the Week. This marks the second time this season that Burnett has been awarded the honor from the league.

Burnett led the Phoenix in scoring last week, averaging 14 points per game after an 8-of-18 performance from the field to shoot 44.4 percent. The freshman also went 4-of-8 from long distance (50 percent), hit 8-of-11 chances from the line (73 percent) and hauled down 10 rebounds (5.0/game).

She recorded seven points in Elon’s game at UNCW, including a perfect 4-for-4 mark from the charity stripe, along with three rebounds. In the team’s overtime win against Northeastern Sunday, Burnett posted a new career-high 21 points after a 7-of-15 FG performance and went 3-of-6 from beyond the arc (both career highs). Burnett also recorded four free throws and posted a team-high seven rebounds in the victory. The Graham, N.C., native also tallied two assists and one steal on the week.*****

  2. AMEN on Jones….I saw her last Tuesday night vs. GDS and I could take Jones and a couple of her teammates from WES and add two more of our freshman from above, give me Cunane and Gibbs out of the gate and my team with these kids, could beat many of the older teams in our area…

Love watching Jones play, she is mature beyond her years and she can attack the basket and she does not give up her dribble, she keeps the plays alive…Had not thought of her earlier due to my brain having been focused on the public school kids for the most part, but Jones is in/on, and she would say, “Bring It On”….

Shaniya Jones, a very good addition to this conversation…And again, a good AMEN on her name being added in here and if this was one year ago, we would be talking about Lashonda Monk, from SWG….
