Elon WLAX: CAA Announces Women’s Lacrosse Preseason Predictions

RICHMOND, Va. – The Colonial Athletic Association released its 2015 women’s lacrosse preseason poll today, Jan. 27. Elon earned 14 points and has been selected to finish seventh, according to a vote by the league’s head coaches.

Three-time defending CAA champion Towson was picked to finish first with 39 points and five first-place votes. James Madison received 37 points, including two first-place votes) and was predicted to finish second. Delaware and Hofstra tied for third in the poll with 31 points apiece. Drexel (19 points) was selected fifth and William & Mary (18 points) came in sixth.

Last season, the Phoenix wrapped up its first season of competition with an 8-9 overall record (4-1 Atlantic-Sun), a second-place regular season A-Sun finish and a perfect 5-0 home mark. Elon returns 23 letterwinners, including 11 starters, from last year’s team and also welcomes 12 freshmen.

Elon opens the season at home at Rudd Field when it welcomes former A-Sun conference opponent Kennesaw State on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m. The Phoenix plays its first CAA game on Friday, April 3, at Towson. The 2015 CAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship, which features the top four teams from the regular season, is set for May 1 – 3 and will be hosted by Delaware in Newark, Del.
