PERQUIMANS, CARDINAL GIBBONS ATHLETES EARN NCHSAA PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL—Sarah Marriner of Perquimans and Logan Bugg of Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons are the winners of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Subway® Restaurants.

Each week one male and one female athlete in NCHSAA competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Marriner, a senior guard on the women’s basketball team at Perquimans, averaged 27 points per game in three wins for her team last week. Perquimans currently is 14-3 overall and 9-2 in conference play.

Marriner had 30 points, including five three-pointers, nine rebounds and a whopping 13 steals in a 55-24 win over Cape Hatteras. She followed with 31 points, including eight of 11 from the field and 13 of 14 from the foul line, six rebounds, three assists and nine steals in a 56-51 victory over Edenton Holmes. Her week ended with a 20-point, five-rebound, eight-assist, eight-steal game as Perquimans downed Ocracoke 66-36.

Bugg, an outstanding shooter on the Gibbons men’s basketball team, had a phenomenal performance for the Crusaders against a tough Orange team on the road. He poured in 38 points but remarkably knocked in 10 of 16 three-pointers as Gibbons battled before falling to Orange 83-74.

Bugg is shooting 53.5 percent from the floor for the season and an outstanding 42.6 percent, 49 for 115, from beyond the arc. Gibbons is in a fight for the top spot in the Big Eight Conference standings and has split with Orange in regular-season contests.

TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during a SportsNight show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients are also recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
