Looking back at Friday night’s games and those MAGIC numbers:Who were the stats leaders and “Choose Your Player”(Peyton Kadlecek scores her 1000th point)

Lets go with a starting point of 10 points for the girls and 15 for the boys and then head/dig into last night’s numbers and from the games I saw, I will take the kid from Northern Guilford that hit the shot to send the Eastern Guilford-Northern Guilford game into Overtime(Jerry Wolford has a nice photo of this kid at the News and Record/(www.news-record.com) this morning, I’ll take Sydney Wilson from Northern and Quayson Williams from Eastern as the players I will choose that had a major impact on the games from last evening…

  1. I don’t know this Quayson Williams players and I have never seen him play but what makes him the top player. It is clear he can score because I see that he is getting 25-30 each night. I would however challenge the statement of top player in Guilford Co. When I consider players such as Harry at WES, Peter at GDS, or even a Hooker at Dudley, then that become a different conversation. Regardless, if this kid is in the same class as these guys, then he is worth the price of admission.

  2. @taking your word, well I can tell you one thing for sure. The kid is 6’1 and has Eastern Guilford at the top of the Confenrece which this school hasn’t been in a very long time if ever. Check his stats on Maxprep. He is averaging over 25 pts a game 6.2 assist, 7.6 Rebs and 3.6 steals now that’s impressive. Not taking anything away from the players you have named but be mindful that his team has no one over 6’2 on their roster. One more thing pay the charge of 5 dollars and them decide I he was worth the admission.

  3. From what I have seen and I’ve seen all of the players that have been mentioned, each one is different and you have to examine each one and their body of work…

Harry Giles is a big man and he impacts his team in a big way and the same can be said for Peter Agba at GDS, even though size-wise he is not as big as Giles….These kids are big and they are good but have to study and figure which of the players that we are talking about has the biggest impact on his team….

Hooker is not having quite the year he had last year when he burst on the scene as a freshman and with Dudley being down a bit, he is expected to do more and the defenses can focus more on Hendon than they did last year….

KJ Langley at Southwest Guilford has to be a part of this conversation…He has a major impact on his team at Southwest Guilford and his senior leadership can not be taken for granted….

Quayson Williams does as much to help his team as any player in the county….You take him away from Eastern Guilford and they would be a totally different team….Williams makes EG go and he does carry the Wildcats…I have seen games when he has had to sit down with foul trouble or with a cramp/injury and Eastern is not the same…Tre McLean gives Eastern Guilford a big boost if and when Quayson is out of the lineup, but Quayson has as big an impact as any kid around here…

Jalen Seegars does much for Page, but he does have much help from Diondre Overton and Xavier Hill-Mais…

Harry Giles should be dominant, look how big he is and towers over most of his opponents, but if you take a long hard look at this, Langley and Williams do as much for teams as possible and they both are barely six feet tall, if that and that has to be taken into consideration….

My theory always has been, if you are big/tall, you should be expected to do more, you have one heck of head start…Is Giles doing all he can to help and carry his team???

We will know more about this come Tuesday night at around 8:30pm….

Two more kids that are doing their best to help carry their clubs are Aaron Simpson at Smith and John Puryear at Grimsley….

You can’t go wrong with any of these young men and Williams, Langley and Giles might be your front runners for Player of the Year, here in Guilford County…That is if you look at it outright and right up close and personal….

If GDS wins it all it will have to be a team effort with Agba and Darius Moore leading the way….

  4. Hooker shouldn’t be in the discussion for best player. Maybe the most important but even so that’s more on the football field and not the court for Hooker. Harry Giles is definitely the most important player on any team. He’s by far the best player. Let’s Not get carried away with thinking any other player around here is As good as Harry. Regardless of teams. And he’s also the most important. Without harry, that schedule they play would be to difficult.

  5. Well everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I really like Harry’s game and think he is really good but like Andy said the you have to look at positions. He is a big man and towers over most of his opponents so he better dominant. But again look at Williams stats and he’s a 6’0- 6’1 guard and averaging 7.6 Reb smh. The kid stats speaks for themselves.

  6. As everyone else has mentioned, Quayson Williams is 6′, maybe 6’1 on good day & he’s averaging a nice amount of rebounds per game with a short roster, he’s getting 7-8 assist every night with a team that has everyone appalled when they knock off a team like Northern & Page & everyone just talks about how much of an impact Williams makes in these games & how much he’s turned EG basketball around. & Williams has been maintaining these stats for the past 3 seasons increasing every year, & staying true to the program & the fans of EG. You take Williams away then you go from “18-3” to maybe “9-11”. He’s arguablt the top play in EG County.

  7. @dickie Harter you should know that Hooker should be mentioned as one of the best in the area for bball as mentioned in scouting reports and with D1 bball recruiting he has. Not just fball. Having a guard switch to post on D & poor coaching is to his detriment this year. Williams has to be the scoring leader and great player, along with the Langleys, Seegars,Puryear, Overton, Agba with Giles being the clear leader. Also consider the balance these other teams have.

  8. I’ve seen Quayson during the AAU circuit last season and though he is a good player Harry Giles is a great player and ranked in the Top 3 c/o 2016 players nationally. There is a reason all the top D1 schools follow him! Hands down Harry is hands down the best player in Greensboro and one of the tops in the country.

  9. Has this Quayson Williams committed to a college yet or signing in the late April period? If he is 6’1″ and can score 25-30 pts a game, then I would think some solid mid level D1 programs would have him on their recruiting list. UNCG could use an additional ball handler that can shoot today. It sounds like he is good enough that he will not cost his parents anything to go to college. Good luck.

  10. @My 2 Cents reading is fundamental. Again you have to look at positions and no one said that he was better then Harry. OMG. Harry is a big man that plays the post, Quayson is a guard. That’s like comparing Shaq and Kobe. Both young man help their team in a great way and without them their teams wouldn’t be in the position that they are in my opinion. But again Harry is suppose to dominant he’s what 6’8- 6’9 and weigh about 200-225 how many players has he played against that stand at least shoulder to shoulder with him. Not saying that he wouldn’t is do him but at least he would feel some type of challenge. Quayson faces guards his height and taller almost every game and the kid is still putting up great numbers. He is averaging more rebs them most center and forward out there. Again check the stats numbers don’t lie.

  11. In response to the debate about the best player in GC, it’s definitely between Williams and Giles. The question you have to ask yourself is Giles performing at the same level with players at his height and size? I have seen both play and Giles is definitely dominant in county games but when he is against competition of a comparable size and talent level, not so much. Williams did have a pedestrian AAU season, But I coached him in middle school and the boy was playing 2 yrs up from 6th to 8th grade, so he knows big time competition. He has several offers, just hasn’t decided on which school to sign with yet. I will tell you this, I would want to try to stick him.

  12. Quayson Williams is getting several looks from colleges including a long look and an offer from UNCG based on what he was telling me last Thursday night….

He will get his chance at the mid-major level and Harry Giles will go to the high DI level, but that does not diminish in any way what each young man does for their teams…

Both are top-notch players in Guilford County….

Would be interesting seeing Quayson at UNCG as the understudy to Diante Baldwin(HPCA) in Williams first year and you might see both of them in the same backcourt at times if it does work out that Quayson signs with UNCG…

Williams can start there in the future….
