College Women’s Basketball Final – Guilford 65, Shenandoah 25

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College held Shenandoah University to 25 points, the third-fewest in program history, to claim a Saturday afternoon Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory, 65-25. In their four-game winning streak, the Quakers have given up 37.3 points per game.

Guilford (13-8, 7-5 ODAC) held Shenandoah (7-14, 3-9 ODAC) to just four field goals and nine points in the first half as the Hornets shot 16.7 percent from the field while being held without a field goal for a 12:56 stretch that spanned both halves. The Hornets ended the drought when Breya Wallace converted on a layup at the 15:35 mark in the second half. Guilford opened the first 3:26 of the second half on a 19-2 run to grow their lead to 36 points. The Quakers’ largest lead would reach 42 with 3:53 left in the contest.

Anais Weatherly (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) led a balanced attack with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting with seven rebounds, five on the offensive glass. Brittany Drew (Greensboro, N.C./Page) was the remaining Quaker in double-figure scoring with 10 points on 4-for-9 shooting from the field and 2-of-3 from three-point range. Kali Cuttaia (Eden, N.C./Morehead/Univ. of Charleston (W. Va.)) added eight points, seven rebounds, and two rejections to her ODAC-leading total in blocked shots.

Shenandoah’s bench out-scored their starters, 14-11, with Wallace leading all Hornet scorers with eight points and seven rebounds. Kirstyn Arcata scored six points while pulling down five rebounds.

The Quakers shot 37.7 percent from the field, including 45.2 percent second-half shooting and 6-of-15 (40 percent) shooting from three-point range. Shenandoah shot 23.3 percent from the field while improving in the second half to shoot 31.6 percent.

Guilford out-rebounded Shenandoah, 47-32, amassing 22 offensive rebounds that produced 13 second-chance points. Shenandoah produced five second-chance points off 10 offensive rebounds. The Quakers produced 17 points off of Shenandoah’s 27 turnovers while the Hornets produced eight points off Guilford’s 13 miscues.

The Quakers return to action Wednesday, traveling to Roanoke College for a 7 p.m. ODAC contest.
