Elon Track and Field Closes Out Competition at Buccaneer Invite

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Elon University women’s track and field team closed out competition on Saturday, Feb. 7, the final day of the Buccaneer Invitational, hosted by East Tennessee State University.

“We had a solid weekend with some good performances,” said Elon Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mark Elliston. “We are still battling sickness and injuries, but I was pleased (with the results) and looking forward to having a better showing for the meet this coming Thursday.”

Sydney Griffin had a runner-up finish in the 60-meter hurdles with her time of 8.82 and qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) indoor meet. In the shot put, Bre’ anna Warren was eighth overall with a throw of 44’ 2” (13.46m). Rookie Bryanna Hames finished just outside of the top 10 in the event with her heave of 41’ 5” (12.62m).

Freshman Lydia Laws was Elon’s top finisher in the long jump after a leap of 17’ 1.25” (5.21m), 16th overall.

The maroon and gold is back in action next week at the High Point Team Challenge at the JDL Fast Track Complex in Winston-Salem, N.C., next Thursday, Feb. 12.
