GC Women’s Basketball Downs William Peace On The Road

RALEIGH, NC- The Greensboro College Women’s Basketball team gained a 65-49 road victory against William Peace on Saturday afternoon.

The Pride started the scoring early with Alexis Hite sinking a three-pointer just 15 seconds into the game. The Pacers responded with Brittany Boykin draining two free throws followed by a jumper from the hands of Krystal Williams for a 4-3 lead.

At the 15 minute mark, Jordan Ka’La from the Pacers hit a three-pointer for a 10-7 lead. For the next three minutes no one scored until Kamerin Williams sunk a jumper to cut the score to 10-9. The Pacers took the lead back in the 10th minute with both Dejah Cheatham and Boykin scoring a basket apiece.

With six minutes left in the first half, The Pride’s Josyln Spires drained a basket then hit a three-pointer to make the score 23-19 in favor of the Pacers.

Greensboro’s scoring leaders in the first half were Hite and Spires with six and five, respectively. Tiffani Stephens got her hands on four rebounds while Spires, McNeil, Hampton, and Marla Crawford grabbed three.

The Pride left the first half down 30-26 but to only return strong in the second half. After three minutes of play, Greensboro held onto the lead for the rest of the game. To start the lead, Hampton hit a three-pointer for a 35-33 lead. With 15 minutes left in the game, The Pride racked up a 42-35 lead with help from Hite, Hampton and Williams. From then on, The Pride took the win.

For the game, Hampton netted 13 points, Spires netted 12 and Hite had 11 points. McNeil and Hampton both grabbed 10 rebounds during the game and Kamerin Williams grabbed six. The Pride shot 41.8% from the field and 66.7% from the free throw line.

The Pride travel to Meredith University tomorrow Sunday, February 8. Start time is 2 p.m.
