Elon’s Coffer(Northern Guilford HS) Honored as CAA WBB Player of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – The Colonial Athletic Association announced today, Feb. 9, that Elon women’s basketball’s Sam Coffer(Northern Guilford High School) has earned Player of the Week honors.

Coffer helped the Phoenix to two road wins last week after averaging 18.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. The senior went 13-of-19 from the field to shoot 68.4 percent, including 9-of-14 from beyond the arc for a 64.3 three-point percentage. In the team’s 84-70 win at Towson, Coffer posted a season-high 18 points after going 6-of-9 from the field, including four baskets from three, to go along with five boards and a season-high four assists. She bested the season high three days later with 19 points in the victory at College of Charleston after a 7-of-10 day from the field with a career-best five triples. Coffer also grabbed 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.

The Greensboro, N.C., native was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 First Team last week for the second straight season. Coffer owns a 3.89 GPA in biochemistry and is now automatically nominated for Academic All-America status.

Elon plays its first home game in almost three weeks in Alumni Gym when it hosts UNCW on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m.

  2. Way to go Sam! What a fantastic young woman she is. It is great to see her having such a good Sr year. Her sis is also doing well at Campbell.
