GC Pride Baseball Completes Three Game Sweep of William Peace 4-1

CARY, NC – The Greensboro College baseball team completed a three game sweep of William Peace at the USA Baseball Training Complex on Sunday afternoon. The Pride collected double digit hits for the third consecutive game, and came home with a 4-1 victory.

Greensboro College got on the board in the top half of the first inning of play. J.P. Lisk opened the game with a leadoff walk before coming around on a Jordan Powell RBI double to put the Pride up early 1-0.

In their next trip to the plate, Greensboro was able to get the leadoff hitter aboard the base path for the second consecutive. Kyle Willard, who was serving as the Designated Hitter, go the inning started with a long double to left center field to find himself in scoring position. Following the Willard double, freshman third basemen Kristian Hernandez produced a quality at bat to move the runner over before Braedon Jewett recorded an RBI ground out to extend the Pride margin to 2-0.

The Pacers were then able to cut the advantage in half with a single run in the home half of the third inning following an single by JT Howington.

Greensboro the got the one run back in a hurry. Kyle Willard recorded his second of three hits on the day to open the top half of the fourth inning before coming around to score on a Zach Neumeister single making the score 3-1.

The Pride then got one final insurance run in the eighth inning to preserve the, 4-1, victory.

Starting pitcher Jeff Waring (1-0) picked up the win on the bump for Greensboro College tossing six strong innings while recording five strikeouts. Dustin Minnick came out of the bullpen following Waring’s departure before Brian Robbett recorded his first save opportunity of the season.

With the three game sweep of the Pacers, Greensboro College finds themselves sitting at a perfect 3-0 overall on the season and 3-0 in USA South Athletic Conference play. The Pride baseball team will make their first appearance of the season at Ted Leonard Park on Friday afternoon at 4:00 PM. Greensboro will welcome USA South foe Averett University to town for the beginning of a three game set.
