College Men’s Tennis News – Guilford Picked Fifth in Preseason ODAC Poll

FOREST, Va. – Guilford College’s men’s tennis team is ranked fifth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Preseason Coaches’ Poll released Thursday. The Quakers collected 57 points, the same total as Roanoke College. Topping the poll with 10 first-place votes is five-time defending conference champion Washington and Lee University. Bridgewater College earned the final first-place vote, but was ranked third behind Virginia Wesleyan College.

The Quakers finished the 2013-14 season 7-11 overall and 5-5 in the ODAC. They will likely be led by returning veterans and the Second Team All-ODAC doubles tandem of Turner Votipka and junior Erik Meiler. Votipka, a senior, remains a threat in both singles (10-7) and doubles (11-7) competition after leading last year’s team in victories. Seniors Trevor Cox (9-7 singles, 7-9 doubles) and captain Blake Brown (8-7 singles, 2-4 doubles) look to end their Guilford careers on high notes.

Head coach Dave McCain’s Quakers open the 2015 season Feb. 18 at home against Greensboro College.
