Interesting show at Shane’s Rib Shack tonight/Thursday:We’re talking 51 rebounds in one game, WOW!

We had our Basketball in Focus Show at the Shane’s Rib Shack tonight and Coach Bill Chambers, from Northern Guilford High School, joined us and he was on his way back into town from Coach Dean Smith’s funeral today in Chapel Hill…

I was doing some research on North Carolina basketball and Coach Bill Chambers today and I came across a bit of interesting information and this made my basketball day….

Coach Chambers said his mom and sister were into basketball and that Coach Smith sent them a Christmas card nearly every year and with his mom and sister into basketball, I asked Coach Chambers if his dad was into basketball…He said he was and I told Coach Chambers that I had a feeling his dad got the job done on the basketball court and that I found this info about him on Wikipedia today:

Coach Chambers’ dad(also Bill Chambers) earned all-state, All-Southern Conference and Helms All-American status while playing for the William and Mary Tribe. On February 14 of his senior year in college, Chambers set an NCAA single game rebound record of 51 against the University of Virginia. It is a record that still stands to this day. He was also selected as Virginia’s Outstanding Collegiate Basketball Player that same year…

51 rebounds in one game, WOW…..And this was local coach and player(Grimsley High
School) Bill Chambers’ dad…A nice piece/part of NCAA basketball history right here in Greensboro….Coach Bill Chambers played for Bob Jamieson at Grimsley High School….

The 51 rebounds in one game just nearly blows you away on a cold night….

Coach Freddy Johnson, from Greensboro Day School, was with us and said he wouldn’t mind coaching another 10 years at the Day School….Coach Johnson said he was feeling good and feeling younger than ever in 2015…Davidson Day at Greensboro Day on Friday night….

We also got to talk to a young coach on the move, Daryl Steele from the Northeast Guilford girls program… Coach Steele had Dinah Neal and Nichelle Jeffries with him and Neal has some good blood lines, she is related to former Harlem Globetrotter Fred ‘Curley’ Neal from Greensboro….

Michael Fields from GTCC gave his high school(Vandalia Christian) and college report and he had plenty to say about VCS heading into the playoffs beginning on Friday night at VCS…

All-in-all, a very good and interesting basketball night at the Shane’s Rib Shack on Westover Terrace…
(51 Rebounds in one game, WOW!)
