Elon Track and Field Phoenix Posts Stellar Performances at High Point Team Challenge

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Elon University women’s track and field team posted a number of stellar performances on Thursday, Feb. 12, at the High Point Team Challenge inside the JDL Fast Track complex.

Sophomore Kimberly Johansen continued her strong indoor campaign as she took the crown in the 800-meters with a new school-record time of 2:12.97. The mark also qualified Johansen for her third event for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championships.

Junior Sydney Griffin won the 60-meter hurdles title with a time of 8.93 while freshman Lydia Laws was the runner-up at 8.98. Griffin was also the runner-up in the 200-meters with her time of 25.87.

Another title was captured in the one-mile run as Tereza Novotna came across the line in first with a personal-record time of 4:58.02. Kaitlin Snapp was fourth in the race with a time of 5:06.88.

Rookie Bryanna Hames had the second-best throw in school history in the shot put as the Charlotte, N.C., native had a toss of 13.56m to win the event. Teammate Bre’anna Warren was fourth in the event with her mark of 11.56m. Hames’ throw qualifies her for the ECAC meet in Boston next month.

Junior Megan Kirschling also qualified for the ECACs after winning the high jump title with a cleared height of 1.73m.

The Phoenix also won the 4×400-meter relay as the quartet of Jennifer Pash, Laws, Johansen and Jen Esposito clocked a time of 3:57.05.

The Phoenix will have a small number of its distance members compete tomorrow, Feb. 13, at the SPIRE Division I Track and Field Invite in Geneva, Ohio.
