College Baseball Finals – Guilford 2 – 9, Bluefield State 0 – 2

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College pitching held Bluefield State College scoreless for the first 11 and one-third innings of the Saturday afternoon’s doubleheader, earning a sweep of Bluefield State. The Quakers took the first contest, 2-0, and the nightcap, 9-2, with each contest lasting seven innings.

Chase Shuford (1-0) collected the win in game one, throwing six innings and fanning six batters while giving up just two hits. Drew Martin (Germanton, N.C./South Stokes) collected his first save of the season, throwing the final inning and striking out one.

Dano Weygandt (1-0) took the game two win, pitching four scoreless innings while walking two and striking out three batters. Joe LeNoir relieved Weygandt in the fifth, throwing two innings and giving up on run on four hits while walking two.
Nick Blackwood (Greensboro, N.C./Wesleyan Christian Academy) struck out one while giving up one unearned run on one hit in the final inning of the afternoon.

Ben Fraley (1-0) took the game one loss for the Blues while Kenny Broeker led the Blues on the mound, throwing the final two innings and giving up just one hit while striking out and walking one a piece.

Brandon Tucker (0-1) took the loss in game two while Jacob Muncy led the Blues on the mound, throwing two and two-thirds innings of relief, giving up just one hit while walking and striking out two batters a piece.

Guilford’s Jacob Roberts was one of two Quaker bats to play in both contests, batting 3-for-7 with a double and a RBI for the entire afternoon. A.J. Girting led the Quakers in game two with three RBI while Lane Daniels and Trey Mabry each drove in two runs while adding a double a piece. Tyler Petersen picked up the lone RBI in game one.

Ricky Diaz led the Blues at the plate, finishing the doubleheader 3-for-6 with the Blues’ lone RBI in game two and a double.

The Quakers (3-2) return to McBane Field tomorrow to face Maine-Presque Isle tomorrow at 2 p.m.
