Elon Phoenix Women Golf Team Claim Third Title of Season

ESTERO, Fla. – Thanks to a final round 303, the Elon women’s golf team claimed the team championship at the FGCU Eagle Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The Phoenix ended the event with a three-round mark of 901 (290-308-303) to capture its third team title of the year.

Led by Sunna Vidisdottir, four of the Phoenix’s five counters earned top-10 finishes. Vidisdottir shot a six-over 222 (71-76-75) to place third out of the 84 participants in the field.

Two strokes back in fourth place with a 224 (75-74-75) was Kelsey Badmaev, while Emily Brooks tied for sixth with a three-day mark of 227 (72-82-73). Finally, Heather Munro tied for 10th after carding a 230 (72-78-80).

Hilda Kristjansdottir’s 247 (81-80-86) placed her in a tie for 52nd.

Playing as an individual, Taylor Wilkerson shot a 249 (84-80-85) to tie for 58th.

The Phoenix bested both Toledo (918) and Daytona State (918) by 17 strokes to win the championship. Xavier (924) and host Florida Gulf Coast (936) rounded out the top five in the 14-team field.

Toledo’s Sathika Ruenreong and Daytona State’s Tiffany Chan shared medalist honors with three-round scores of 221.

Elon’s next tournament will be the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic hosted by College of Charleston on Kiawah Island from March 1-3.
