Faith Christian and Vandalia Christian faced off Friday night.

They were playing to see who would advance to the NCCSA 2A Boys Basketball State Tournament. Faith was the underdog in this game. They had struggled through the year. This didn’t matter now. They had a chance to win a game and make it to the state tournament. Vandalia Christian was the heavy favorite in this one. They were playing at home and had more talent than Faith Christian. If they lost, it would be a huge upset. Both teams started the game off sluggish. They couldn’t get their offenses running. The defense in the game was incredible. It seemed like both teams just couldn’t get it started. They kept missing shots and forcing bad passes. The first quarter was kind of hard to watch. Both teams scored under eleven points in the first quarter.

The second quarter wasn’t much better. Both teams continued to struggle. They couldn’t find their stride. They went into halftime without scoring twenty points. That wasn’t one team; that was both teams. The first half was dedicated to defense. Both teams played excellent defense. They didn’t play offense much. The second half was a different story, for Vandalia Christian at least.

They figured out what they needed to work on at halftime. They went out and executed in the second half. The Vikings started to get it rolling in the third quarter. The team started to play unselfish. They weren’t worried about their own statistics. They just wanted to make it to the state tournament. They started playing good together on offense. They were holding Faith Christian to seldom opportunities on their offense end.

Faith went into the fourth quarter with twenty points total. That says a lot about the Vikings defense in this game. They were shutting them down. They wouldn’t let them have anything that they wanted on offense. The fourth quarter was the most entertaining to watch. It was more about offense in this quarter and not really about defense. Faith Christian tried to make a comeback. They were playing for a chance at the state championship too. Unfortunately, they just didn’t have enough weapons on offense to produce for them.

Vandalia went onto the win and a trip to the state tournament. They get a shot at a championship ring that they have been thinking about all year.
